Smile (2022)
Most Reviewers Have Got the Ending wrong! SPOILERS
Most reviewers say they are disappointed by the ending because they perceive the ending as a mainstream horror ending where the 'evil spirit' gets passed on to the next victim. You've got this wrong!
Here's the real reason why the ending is clever and aligned with the rest of the theme of the movie.
The very first scene shows the dead mother. This is where the mental and emotional trauma began in Rose.
Like most psychologists, Rose entered this professional because of her own unresolved trauma.
In the hospital, the young girl who also experienced trauma from seeing someone suicide was having paranoid delusions and her suicide triggered Rose's own trauma.
All victims were in fact not cursed by an evil spirit, but when triggered, were reliving their own trauma that was still living inside them.
Rose realises she needs to confront the trauma of her mother's suicide and letting her die by going back to her childhood home. In one of the final scenes we witness the giant gruesome mother tilting Rose's head back and looks like it's trying to enter her body. When Joel enters we see Rose in a similar position with her head tilted back pouring the can of gasoline over herself. These two scenes mirror each other, intentionally showing the viewer that there is no evil spirit that gets passed on from person to person, but instead affirms the fundamental theme of the movie - unresolved trauma lies dormant in the body until it's triggered - and in fact Rose and all the other victims were experiencing paranoid delusions from witnessing a person suiciding in front of them.
All the 'evil spirits' are a metaphor for the trauma living in the human body and how it manifests in the forms of mental delusions.
I urge viewers to re-watch the ending.
Crime Diaries: The Celebrity Stylist (2023)
If you want intrigue, mystery and suspense DON'T WATCH THIS!
Erm, what the actual heck? I was looking forward to a 'whodunnit' with intrigue, mystery and suspense, but no, not this movie! It could have been literally 1 minute long because that's how long it took to know the outcome. I continued to the end because I thought, no professional writer would surely have written this script where within 1 minute we know the killer and the reason why they did it. I honestly thought there was going to be some big revelation at the end and that it was not in fact this very obvious person with a very obvious motive, but guess what, no, the first 1 minute literally explained everything. How bizarre that someone would put material out like this and be okay with this standard. In reality they should have just made a 1 minute Youtube short and saved everyones time that they'll never get back.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Explotitive. Loud and Repetitive
I was looking forward to this film, since I am a huge fan of Inception that I found really clever and thought provoking.
Unfortunately, Oppenheimer didn't have any redeeming qualities that I can focus on.
These were my issues: firstly, the first 30 minutes setting the scene were extremely slow and tedious and I started to wonder how I was going to sit through 3 hours. It did pick up in momentum after that, but in between had further periods of what felt like continual repetitive scenes where the audience isn't learning anything new.
My second issue is that directors and producers of this film clearly have a lot more personal development, self reflection and evolution to do, as this film contains multiple scenes of unnecessary female nudity and yet the man shows nothing. Just another example of exploitation of the female body by Neanderthal humans. Furthermore, there was several scenes of a poor child suffering and crying, and in one scene the poor child's face was so red and swollen from constant crying that I was shocked and disheartened that the director would exploit this child to capture this unimportant scene. It really alarms me at how people are willing to degrade and harm other humans for their own selfish ego and gain.
The third issue was the excessively loud bursts of background noise, that were randomly issued throughout. They were so loud that I had to literally put my fingers in my ears to protect my hearing.
I do enjoy historical films and I would have scored it higher if the above mentioned weren't in the film.
In hindsight, I wish I hadn't put my money towards the viewing of this film, as I don't like to support exploitation in any way.
La Dama del Silencio. El caso Mataviejitas (2023)
Background Music from Hell!
I don't know who thought it was a good idea to put cartoon sounding dramatic music in the background, but it was so distracting and annoying that I couldn't continue watching. The choice of music was in stark contrast to the somber tone of the storyline which made it feel completely disjointed and almost comedic.
It's a shame because I like these kinds of shows and I'm a very tolerate person. This would be the first one I've had to turn off because of how bad and annoying the background music was.
The only thing I can suggest is to watch it with subtitles and with the sound off. I'm going to have nightmares with this atrocious music as the background!
Murdered Online (2014)
25 Minutes of Nothing
I'm so confused. This is 25 minutes of literally nothing. A woman is murdered due to responding to a fake Gumtree ad and that's it. No one knows what happened. The end. That's literally all this is. What a waste of time. I can't believe it actually got made. It's sad what happened to the lady, but the story is pretty much, 'Female responds to fake Gumtree ad, she's attacked, she doesn't report to the police, friends don't ask her questions and eventually she ends up in a coma and dies'. There are no suspects and nothing further to report on the case. Then it suddenly ends. How bizarre. Don't recommend.
Inside Man (2022)
Really Bad: Hideous Characters. Implausible behaviour. Completely unrealistic
The idea was interesting and could have been made into an interesting plot, but boy, what a disaster. All the characters were unlikeable, especially the Vicar and Janice. Every character behaved in ways that were so unrealistic and ridiculous that I was rolling my eyes and shaking my head at how stupid and unbelievable the script was. There were countless plot holes and the 'ethical' reason why Stanley Tucci's character mutilated and beheaded his wife was left unexplained; probably because the writers clearly couldn't think of one. I would definitely give this one a miss and avoid disappointment.
Project X (2012)
Hideous!
Hideous! No other words necessary. The people who made this film should be barred from film making for life. They've made the world a worse place by making this trash. I'm just glad that karma is real!
Most Dangerous Game (2020)
Watch this as a Comedy. You can Thank me Later!
I rated it 7 because I laughed so hard throughout this movie that my cheeks were aching by the end.
I am convinced this was placed in the wrong category and should have been listed as a Comedy: From the predictable plot, the cartoon villains, the sound track, the miracles that occur at every turn that allow him to escape, to the perfect positioning of each villain who just popped up wherever the main protagonist was hiding had me rolling around the floor in stitches.
If you watch this movie as a comedy, it's possible you'll enjoy the hilarity. Thank me later.
If you're looking for a sleek and intelligent thriller, move along. You won't find any of those things here.
