Goodbye Charlie Bright (2001)
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner...
In all honesty, people need to stop hating on this film and start seeing it for the simple bit of local London British genius it is.
This movie is on my top five favourite movies of all time list indefinitely! Not because it's epic or because it has an all-American cast - because it doesn't, it's just real. Admittedly if you're not from London or can't stand a cockney accent then this film is most definitely NOT for you. Other than that I think you'll love it and if you don't/ didn't then I'd love to know why... I defend it to the end! I seriously thought that Eastenders would be the be-all and end-all of Paul Nicholls but he so proved me wrong.. Whatever he does I will always remember him for this movie! He was absolutely brilliant (and cute too). Roland Manookian is not to be forgotten either as the annoying little side-kick that everyone loves to hate. And Jamie Foreman is the man as soon as we are introduced to his character "Tony" on screen... What a fantastic cast!!! Call it personal preference but there were so many laugh-out-loud moments for me in this film and times that I wanted to just cry... It's a roller-coaster of emotions. I recommend this to everyone!! And if you're disappointed then I apologise but I'm confident you won't be. Funny, sad, exciting all at once!!!
The Business (2005)
Danny at his best!
After watching this film for the first time (and it's been about10 or 11 times now) I became such a sucker for Danny Dyer! The bloke is amazing! He has such a presence in this film that I have become devoted to seeing every movie of his from now on (some not so good). This film is so class that I watched it twice in a row once. Never a dull moment and so many one-liners you'll have yourself in stitches! The cast consists of most of the Brit flick regulars including Danny, Dyer, Geoff Bell, Tamer Hassan and Roland Manookian (in a small but memorable role) - so you won't be disappointed! Defintitely worth a watch (or two or three)!! There is always a movie in an actor's career that generates a new-found respect for them... This is the one for Danny!
Dead Silence (2007)
Fantastic! And I'm still scared of dolls!!!
Admittedly, these days, horror movies are so bland and predictable that you think twice about watching and maybe even don't bother at all. No way is that what you should do with Dead Silence.. If you are looking for a good storyline with good acting, great scares, just enough gore and body counts then this is your movie!
When I saw the poster of the Ventriloquist doll I admit I rolled my eyes and thought "not another one", but I didn't want clichés to spoil my fun so I decided to go ahead and watch it anyway... DISAPPOINTED I WAS NOT!!!! The storyline is unique in that THE TWIST IS FANTASTIC! I would never have thought of it! And you have to admit that most scary movie endings have been predicted before the movie's even begun...
I'm not usually one to watch scary movies alone but I braved this one out of sheer boredom despite being told not to by a fellow reviewer, and do not regret the decision at all. It made me jump in all the right places and, as the tagline suggests, I even held myself back from screaming (I'm actually laughing about that now.)
Gone are the days that a movie should be good just because there are known actors in them.. OK, so this one has Donnie Wahlberg but come on.. he ain't Mark (but the film is still great):P The lead actor is good looking and believable... what more do you need..
I hope you all enjoy this film as much as I did! I say bring on another great horror like this one!!!
