Les temps qui changent (2004)
What's with the low rating? I was pulled in from the beginning...
I am surprised by the relatively low average rating for this film compared to the ratings of other similar films. I realize that tastes vary, but this deserves a higher average rating IMHO.
I was drawn into the story and the interaction between the characters. Perhaps I enjoyed it more because I used to live in Europe and speak French fluently (the film does lose something for those who need to read the subtitles). I am tired of the mainstream films and this was so much better than the majority of movies being released these days.
This is an excellent study in human relationships, life and love. It also had some very humorous moments. I also found it to be engrossing, as another reviewer put it.
Like any film it won't appeal to everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one.
I hope films such as this one continue to be produced...
Décalage horaire (2002)
Excellent! Very real! Original too...
I really enjoyed this movie. The film starts off a bit slow, but it is so true to real life and real people.
I like Jean Reno and Juliette Binoche very much, although they both looked very different physically from their usual selves. I didn't even know it was Juliette till the credits came up.
It was nice to see Jean in a non-action film.
I highly recommend this movie to any romantics out there!
Life as a House (2001)
The best, most powerful movie I've seen in a while
I registered explicitly so I could write a few comments about this wonderful film.
I won't go into too many details, because I don't want to spoil anything for those of you who haven't seen it yet. I am confident that the overwhelming majority of you will love this movie:
It has very good acting, is very well-written, tells a powerful and emotionally charged story, yet is never dull and never drags. It makes one think about the meaningful things in life and forget the trivial things that we seem to focus on. As another reviewer pointed out, this is not your average Hollywood film.
I am not a critic and there are plenty of other reviews that echo my sentiments.
Go see it; you won't be disappointed.
