Immanence (2022)
A closet favorite of mine
So the reviews on here trash this movie pretty hard, but I've got to say it's a favorite of mine. We see a lot of Catholicism based movies out and a lot of them are possession based. Immanence brings the devil out front of the camera this time and his presence is diabolical. Presented with a deal from the devil on who lives and dies we quickly see the cast turn primitive and an every man for himself struggle begins. And yet it is the selfish desires that lead to death, and in the end we discover that there is no such thing as predetermined fate. We through our actions or inaction determine if we are saved on the life raft in the end. All in all it was very enjoyable and one I return to frequently.
Silent Hill: Revelation (2012)
A good sequel
Well put together, good cast of actors and this time they really ramped up the religious zealotry which makes for an epic ending. I thought Kit's dialogue seemed a little off but he still delivers in the high horror scenes. Malcom McDowell as always delivers with his trademark "Odd Characters who are Hellfire intense. I would have liked too have seen a brief action sequence of dad before he gets abducted but I understand you got to watch film duration. I thought the CGI was pretty good and it definitely did the job of scaring you and making you think twice before forgetting that hall light lol. If you are a fan of the first movie I definitely recommend it.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
I was slightly dissapointed
Now off the bat, I ranked this a 6/10 because it was certainly enjoyable to watch. However, when placed side by side with its predecessors, it definitely falls short. While enjoyable, and with a very well explained background and current story, I still feel that it did not connect with the existing movies and story lines. Prime was almost a completely different character here, and was not relatable to the movies already out. Even his truck form was different from the previous movies. While I always treasure new movies coming out in the transformer universe, I think that they should stick to the existing established universe details.
Hellraiser (1987)
King? NO! Barker? YES!
I consider myself to be a connoisseur of the Horror industry, and there only a few directors that can create a masterpiece that has me "checking under my bed". Clive Barker is on that list! Here in the Hellraiser universe, the message goes so far beyond the blood, and the gore. Hellraiser takes you to the very core, the very heart of humanity, and shows it for the ugly and mangled face that it is. A universe where the greatest pain of one, is the divine pleasure of another, a place where lust and desire, hate and vengeance all wrap up into the single concept that is "Humanity". I have never read the book but I am told they are exceptional. The movies, are a plunge into pure madness!
Event Horizon (1997)
Among my favorite horror movie
So, there is a lot of mixed hype about this movie. I find it to be a true journey into the essence of horror and madness. When you think of the concept of infinite multiverses and the idea of a universe that exists in only chaos and evil it really brought chills to my spine. I have also heard "unconfirmed" theories that the realm mentioned in Event Horizon is the same as conceived by Clive Barker in the Hellraiser universe it takes the horror level in your mind to a whole new level. I think the actors were well placed and very adequately developed. The story line suffered greatly when a chunk of the most violent content was cut out after bad reviews from screening audiences. They should have released both versions. All in all this is a horror classic that I come back to often!
American Exorcist (2018)
It was OK
So yes the ghosts were not scary, though there were a couple really nicely placed jump scares. It certainly is not big budget I am not even sure it qualifies as medium budget. The main actress had her high points, but her acting and wardrobe were really not up to snuff. I mean come on, who goes to an haunted location in a suit and formal footwear. I did enjoy the big twist close to the ending, however they completely botched that moment with a very over the top highly unbelievable ending which just left me saying "Are you serious!". So if you are a fan of obscure and lower budget productions, then you may enjoy this. It is certainly an acquired taste.
