The Princess (2022)
Fun girl power movie!
This should have been rated pg-23 imo. Not really deserving of the R rating. I watched it with my 10 year old and we both thoroughly enjoyed every minute! No sex scenes, nudity or even kissing, just a tad gory (but not as bad as you think). The fights were VERY well choreographed and although I am not a fan of ms. King she really did a superb job here. I loved that the lead remained nameless. Nice touch.
The Dolphin (2011)
This Bryan Watkins must be rich...
No imagination whatsoever and horrible screenplay... bad actors too but I'm not 100% sure anyone could do much better with what they had to work with.
I hate it when no-talent rich kids get to pretend they are directors... when almost everyone on earth over age 6 could do a better job. Bryan Watkins must be rich because he has less talent than my kitchen sink. I feel violated.
And I find myself wondering how much he paid to get a decent IMDb score for such an atrocity....
Silence on Vaccine (2009)
Most Science (Finally!)
This Canadian movie is also titled "Shots In The Dark". A wonderful collection of the scientific research on vaccines. Over a dozen specialist in medicine and microbiology from all over the world explain their findings clearly and concisely, while teachers and pediatricians also give their take on the subject, based on their personal observations. Most other documentaries are based on the premise that there has NOT been any research done on the effects vaccines have on the long term. Shots in the Dark (or "silence on vaccines") shows that this is not the case. Many, scientist around the world are working to find out why many different health problems have become so common (developmental disorders, MS, diabetes in children, asthma etc.etc.) and finding an obvious link to various types of vaccination. Not a romantic, tear-jerking kind of movie, but a straight up documentary that I enjoyed watching 3 times (LOTS of information here). For the seriously interested parent -a must see.
The Cave (2005)
What more could you ask for?
I honestly don't know what all the haters of this movie have a problem with. I thought it was much better than I expected! Some say the characters were a bit flat but that is exactly what gave the cave such a wonderful multi-faceted personality! It was beautiful and terrifying -and terribly realistic. I particularly enjoyed the detailed climbing and the underwater scenes. I felt like I was there on the expedition too. I for one am glad they didn't go into details about the characters and their personal lives-experiences (see "the Descent"), my time was better spent getting to know the cave. However most of the characters were very cool and easy to like and empathize with. In "the Descent" I honestly didn't care WHAT happened to all of them.
Speaking of "The Descent", I couldn't help comparing the two (I had seen it recently) and that probably made me enjoy "The Cave" even more. "The D" was boring and silly and I practically hated all the characters in it (such idiots!). I was practically rooting for the monsters in the end (Gollum's poor family!) which were ridiculous btw. The whole movie was stupid and just an excuse for splatter. I like splatter as much as the next person but add a little something -ANYTHING, please!
"The Cave" on the other hand, had absolutely fantastic creatures and clever and interesting attacks/interactions with them. A great movie of its genre in my opinion. I mean if you're going to go see a movie about monsters in a cave -what more could you ask for?
I didn't even want to see this movie (especially after I'd seen "The Descent" but I am so glad I did. I give it a 7 (because hey it's just an action flick) but I'd give it an even higher score when compared only to movies of this type. Great fun!!!
Duplex (2003)
Not bad but not funny either...
Although Eileen Essel was simply incredible in this movie (her every little wrinkle can act!) I was disappointed because I never laughed once. But I am also really very bored with B. Stiller. He is such a dork that I didn't feel sorry for the landlords -I was on the tenant's side! The whole movie could have been great (even with B.Stiller) if it was more imaginative and funny. Almost a total waste of time but Eileen Essel pulls it up to "watchable". Other than that, the music and atmosphere were nice and the supporting cast was very good (especially the police officer). The magazine editor was the bad-guy from "The Princess Bride" a great addition here, although I wished he had a bigger part (or better lines!). All in all I honestly believe a child could have written a better script and definitely would have added more imaginative action and laughs to the story. I felt this movie was put together very quickly, just to make a quick buck. "Duplex": the "Home Alone" for grandmothers, had nothing of the charm, laughs, imagination and suspense of "Home Alone". In my "Chart" anything under 4 actually "hurts" while you watch it (with 1 demanding a very strong stomach and courage). Four doesn't hurt but it is still below average (5). Ex. "Douplex". 4 out of 10
