Maybe This Time (2014)
Creepy sexual advance masquerading as romance
This movie did not age well. The first ten minutes of the movie will treat viewers to creepy sexual advances of the male lead masquerading as cute funny romantic advances, the kind that is normalized as acceptable in patriarchal societies and where the female is expected to surrender. You don't need to be a lawyer to recognize these scenes as sexual harrasment. But in this movie, it is treated as normal, funny even. I think it was creepy and uncomfortable. It could have been handled better. The rest of the movie is meh, the usual Pinoy rom com with heavy elements. Don't waste your time, watch something else.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Interesting in the beginning, but ends up endlessly depressing and pointless
I was hooked on this show for the first three or so seasons until I realized, it is just a depressing, meandering, aggravating trip that leads to nowhere. The showrunners had nothing much to offer so they resorted to killing main characters in gruesome ways. In the beginning, the story was interesting enough at least to justify it. But by the end season 6, it has just become a pointless show of gratuitous violence. There is no payoff in this story and expect nothing for your investment in the characters or the story. If you want to go into a dark deep hopeless hole of no return, this show is for you.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Liked the visuals but writing and dialogue is shallow
I don't mind the creative liberties the showrunners took regarding the story. That is to be expected and it gives them the chance to do more than But I have issues regarding the dialogue. The lead characters barely hold any credible conversation. They spend so much time throwing around juvenile lines and trying to be funny it is impossible to take them seriously. The original anime allowed us to invest in many characters, even ones that lasted only one episode. It had light and funny, emotional, serious, suspense, melodramatic, and every kind of moment. The entire live show looks like a caricature of the original anime bery shallow and too focused on being funny. I don't get how characters in the anime and 2D images had more emotion and depth than this live adaptation with its excellent cast of actors. I don't blame the actors, its not their fault. But Netflix, the directors, and writers should really reevaluate how they are approaching this project. If they intend to carry out the next season like season 1, its better to end the show with one season.
Gaet-na-eul cha-cha-cha (2021)
Started very well then went downhill - worst twist ever
I enjoyed the first few episodes. It was light, warm, funny, and had excellent leads and supporting characters. It started to turn sour in the last few episodes. The female lead did not grow at all, never listened to the counsel of other characters, and kept acting like a selfish brat. The twist of the story is one of the worst ever written in a K-drama. The whole time, the male lead's mysterious issue is that he was guilt tripping over things that were never even his fault. He took all of the blame for something that an idiotic and greedy security guard did, taking a risky investment, pouring all his savings and rent deposit on a volatile instrument which the lead male told him not to do, and that ended up tanking. So who ended up taking the loses and the blame? The male lead, his bestfriend died driving him to the hospital because the idiot security guard tried to commit suicide and failed. Then he sold everything he had and gave it to the security guard's family, as an act of apology Why? I don't get it. What a waste.
