FANTASTIC!

This is one nail-biter of a show.

No, "real time" is not a new concept, but it is certainly effective on this series. Throw in an intricate plot with well-defined characters and you have one excellent TV program.

We cannot stand the wait between episodes---we are completely addicted! This show will certainly go down in history as one of TV's finest programs.

Wicked Woman (1953)

1950's NOIR THAT IS WORTH A LOOK

Unbelievably trashy movie that is strangely compelling. I couldn't stop watching this "B" flick, but the ridiculous ending was a letdown. It has some genuinely tense moments, especially when the lovers are in danger of being exposed.

A Great Accomplishment

I sometimes feel that people who are not sympathetic to the silent era and its genre should not view or comment on them.

As a long-time maven of silent films, I have no problem placing myself in that era and enjoying these movies on their own terms. Much has changed since those days, and most folks simply cannot appreciate the simplicity AND complexity of photoplays without words.

This film is magnificent and entertaining. I am not a fan of most "period pieces", but this transcends the typical fare. Check it out.

The Others (2001)
A Classic!

If you are a true maven of "ghost stories" and wonderfully odd movies, then you absolutely must see "The Others". I believe that this film will be included amongst the "classics" of the cinema in years to come. It is unfortunate that previous members of this site have provided key plot twists in their reviews, but the best way to enjoy this great film is WITH NO ADVANCE KNOWLEDGE---take my word on this. The atmosphere and acting take this movie on another level entirely. Probably the best "haunted house" story EVER filmed---and I've seen them all!

Truly Disappointing!
16 October 2001
I have been a fan of S.S. Van Dine's "Philo Vance" novels since I was a kid. I have recently purchased the first editions of most of his catalogue. I have read about this movie for years, and being a HUGE admirer of Louise Brooks, I could not wait to see this film.

Although I have always been fascinated by early sound films, this is one is a textbook case of the problems encountered by the studios at the time. It is slow beyond belief. It is more than obvious that Louise's speaking parts are dubbed. The editors chose long shots so it wasn't as noticeable----it didn't work! Powell's Philo Vance bears no resemblance to the colorful character in the novels. I give this film a "3" rating simply for Brooks' beauty.
