Hardwired (2009)
It's not as bad as some other reviews suggest
18 July 2011
...but it's not great either. The film has a budget, some nice action sequences, decent special effects and some good actors actually doing what they are paid to do. Oh, and Val Kilmer in a silly wig. Cuba Gooding Jr can act and does give his usual decent performance, despite the films flaws. Val Kilmer's scenes were obviously filmed in a day or two of shooting, hence the silly wig and the fact you only ever see him on a video screen or in the same set. Also looks like his lines were being read off a board or he had just read them for the first time 2mins before saying them.

Still the film did have some entertainment value, its not an awful film as other reviewers who voted it 1 have suggested, its just not a good film. It does have some pacing issues, sometimes there is too much explaining going on when anyone with sense can see what's going on, its not brain surgery (well it is in some parts!). It feels like a pilot for a TV series, especially the speech at the end and without giving too much away Lance Henriksen's face on the screen as the 'Mr Hope' of hope industry (you'll see what I mean if you watch it). If there is nothing else on, or you have watched most of the other recent releases then this will pass some time.

Inspector Morse: Greeks Bearing Gifts (1991)
Season 5, Episode 4
6/10
The End Scene
22 May 2010
Whilst I have never been an avid viewer of Morse, i have watched it occasionally and enjoyed them. A repeat of this particular episode has just finished and i was rather disturbed by the scene near the end involving the baby. I won't give any specific details, but the baby was obviously real and obviously in distress during the scene. I'm not easily shocked, but it did make me feel uncomfortable watching this scene, the way the camera is positioned its almost as if the director intended to catch the poor child's reaction. I'm surprised nobody else has commented, and as i say I'm not easily shocked but did find the scene very uncomfortable viewing, which encouraged me to look it up and comment.

Listen To The Reviews (apart from the Directors one)
16 October 2009
If the Director/Producer/Writer is going to review his own movie he might want to try reviewing more than just all his other productions! This movie is as bad as the other reviews here at IMDb say, its got no budget, which in itself shouldn't make the movie bad, but on this occasion it really is bad. You can't make a Gladiator/Braveheart style epic with no money and only several cast members (who all seem to appear in every one of this Directors movies). The "Star" who according to the DVD sleeve was in Dune, did have a very small part in the TV series, which surprisingly was not as a Bus Driver (which seems to be his specialty in most of his other bit parts). Even the official movie website trys to download a Trojan virus, with both Firefox browser blocking it and Avast anti virus popping up warnings, its just a pity the same didn't happen when I picked up the DVD, it would have saved me a lot of wasted time!

It's Not Great But It's OK
25 September 2009
This is one of those movies that people in the main will either love or hate, if you sit down expecting something brilliant then you will hate this movie. It has its moments, but it's not a great comedy movie. With the amount of comments already written for this movie my little review will probably never be read, but if your in the right mood and sit down to watch this not expecting much then you will enjoy it. I don't know why but it reminded me of Carry On Columbus, maybe because I also didn't think it was great but still found something to laugh at (unlike all the Carry On fans who expected a lot more).

The score of about 5/10 here on IMDb is about right, its never going to be in anyones top 10 movies of all time but its also never going to end up in the IMDb all time bottom 250 movies. Watch it with no expectations and it will pass some time. Just don't go out of your way to see this one.

Wow! But Not In A Good Way
26 May 2009
This is one of those movies that you won't see on TV in most countries anymore, it could have been an average late night time filler. Reasonably well made c-grade stuff (but dated looking) with some good actors, but the one thing that it contains that will have you looking twice is the Star Vic Morrow "blacking up" more than once in the movie to pass as a local and apparently getting away with it (with the actors on screen at least). The film itself is a bit overlong and not really anything special, and something you will find on lots of those budget 50 or 100 "movie packs" on DVD. I wouldn't advise you looking for it as its far more 'talky' than action, like a strange episode of a 70's cop show thats more than double the length it should be but with no extra budget or script. Im waffling on now just to fill the space required for reviews here, but let me finish by saying this is a strange curiosity from a bygone age.

Whisper....Whisper....
2 April 2008
The whispering for dramatic effect is just as stupid as the dialog in this talky no budget nonsense. It looks like its mainly improvised by a group of actors (and im using the term loosely) who owed somebody a favor, why else would they be in this turkey.

Even on a bargain $1.00 DVD this is a waste of cash, if your a fan of any of the names associated with this movie, do yourself a favor and avoid it, there's no plot, no style and no movie here. Just a complete mess of different talky scenes that make no sense, maybe someone thought this was art...and remember this was made before taking a dump in a fish tank was considered art, so maybe this inspired someone after all!

English Dubbed Version?
25 March 2008
I just had to write something about the English dubbed version doing the rounds on the bargain basement dvds. It sounds like it was dubbed by comedians, doing an unfunny version of the section on 'whose line is it anyway', where they dub an old movie clip. If they are reading from a script, it dosn't show! The movie itself is surprisingly well shot for a low budget Jess Franco movie, but as soon as one of the English dubbing actors speak, it inspires you to get the German phrase book out and start learning German.

Not surprisingly, there is no reference to who the English voice actors are, obviously not something they want on there CV.

It's A Compilation Of The 70's TV Show From The UK
23 March 2007
Although a few people have pointed out this was a 70's TV show in the UK, this is not a spin off movie. It's actually an abridged version of the show, cleverly edited into a movie. The fact that nobody has noticed that (even the people who remember the show) just proves the editor has done a very good job.

As others have pointed out, if you remember watching this on TV then this is an excellent piece of nostalgia. Even if you never seen it first time its still an enjoyable watch, but just remember it was shot on a 70's TV show budget (a UK one at that) so its not a major production. Although in my opinion it just adds to its gritty charm.

Surprised by this one
3 February 2007
I must admit I'd not so much as heard of this movie before watching it and the fact it was Vin Diesel on the cover almost put me off. I read the cover and noticed it was directed by Sidney Lumet, the director of the best courtroom drama ever made (12 Angry Men), which was the only reason I decided to rent it (that and the fact I'd seen most of the other new release selection in Blockbuster). I'm glad I did!! Vin Diesel can act! I know I'm surprised to...I thought the best he could do was grunt, flex his chest and pop out the occasional one liner after shooting a bad guy. I was wrong, and must admit I really enjoyed his performance in this movie and hope he gets a chance to show a bit more in future roles.

While this is not 12 Angry Men, it's an above average courtroom drama which is funny, and moving in parts and only spoiled ever so slightly (for me) with the corny 'tag'd on' ending, the fists and cheering (a la Rocky) was not really needed but seems to be something that happens in a lot of movies now...sadly! Next time your in Blockbuster (or wherever you rent) pick it up and give it a go you might just be as surprised as I was.

A Classic 70's Itallian Thriller!!
7 June 2006
I can't believe how overlooked this movie is, it's one of the best of the Itallian 'Poliziotti' crime thrillers of the 70's. Starring the always fantastic Giancarlo Giannini and the absolutely gorgeous Ornella Muti it ranks alongside the likes of 'High Crime (1973)'.

OVERVIEW - Wrongly accused of conspiracy against the state, a man is arrested, imprisoned and separated from his lover, beaten by the authorities for failure to collaborate, and threatened by the resistance, who believe him to be a government spy.

This movie is probably so overlooked due to the fact it's so hard to find, but there is a very rare DVD release in the UK under the title 'Betrayed' I would recommend fans of this type of movie to hunt it out...10/10

Excellent Little Thriller
14 May 2006
I'm not as surprised as the other reviewer here that so many people have rated this movie 10. Although it's not a 10 from me I'd still give it 7/10 as it may not have a big budget, but it does what it sets out to do and delivers! The plot - Two female cops hunt down a female serial killer in the crime thriller MURDER AT MIDNIGHT. Diane was abused as a child, seriously damaging her psyche, and now preys on the men of Los Angeles in a perverted quest for justice and revenge. It's up to detectives Sharon and Barbara to find Diane before she kills again. But it won't be as easy it at seems--not only is the entire city of LA Diane's hunting ground, the two cops also have some personal demons of their own to work out.

It's a shame that the movie appears to be out of print everywhere, here in the UK it was released as 'Good to Go' on DVD. If you ever come across it i'd suggest snapping it up, as you won't be disappointed.

Pure 70's and All The Better For It
1 May 2006
I watched this movie not expecting too much as the cover is really (and i mean one of the worst I've ever seen) bad. From the cover (as there is no description of the movie here at IMDb); "Freewheeling Hank a local good ol'boy decides to mend his wayward ways and contribute to the community by becoming a hero and helping folk out of scrapes but passes all the glory off onto his bumbling masked sidekick who soon becomes a celebrity to the grateful townsfolk.

Meanwhile a psychopathic killer has been terrorising young women in the area, stabbing them and leaving his mark, a dollop of chocolate ice cream on his victims. Hank is soon forced to get on the trail of the killer and uses the beautiful Marsha as bait but things go wrong as the local law arrest Hank as the prime murder suspect." This is full of recognisable 70's actors from TV, and is very enjoyable in a 'flares' and 'kipper' tie way. In the UK the movie is called 'The Chocolate Killer'

This is as bad as the rating suggests
20 March 2006
There are occasions I take the ratings for movies on here with a pinch of salt, especially when it comes to remakes. As a lot of people will give an above average remake a lower rating due to the fact they regard the original to be untouchable. Well I came to this movie with an open mind as I had never watched the original before I watched this one, but watched them both back to back. The special effects in the original are better than the remake? With all the advances in CGI and effects how on earth did they manage that? The remake dosn't even have the same pace and its no where near as creepy as the original?

This is a bad movie, and I'm surprised John Carpenter put his name anywhere near it...bad idea John...and very bad movie!

I knew everyone says its awful but i was still surprised by how awful!
8 May 2005
Wow!

I have just finished watching Son of the mask and having heard not one good word about it i still didn't expect what i just watched. I thought everyone was being hard on it due to the fact that its another sequel to a Jim Carey movie without Jim Carey (like dumb and dumberer which isn't all bad). This is truly a very bad film, script, direction (i can see a very short career there!) and the acting. Although to give them a break most of the actors do try but the editing and direction just doesn't do anything to assist them. I got this for an 8 year old who saw the trailer with the dog in the mask (they love dogs) and they haven't seen it yet....I'm going to have to take them and buy a flippin dog after showing them this due to the disappointment i can see coming! Awful and truly deserves to be in the 100 worst movies!

Fans of the TV Show Will Love It...If they heard of it!
26 February 2005
I found this on DVD at my local blockbuster among the ex rental titles for 2.99 and bought it as I used to watch the TV show of the same name. What happened with this movie?I had not as much as read a review of it in any magazine (and I read them all), seen an ad or even heard of it being in the pipeline? Was it a secret, did it just appear on DVD shelves overnight? Anyway now that I have found it and watched it, I can say that it will appeal to fans of the TV series, its not cinema at its best but it has transfered quite well to the big screen (or DVD small screen)with the same sort of humour. The DVD has a fair few extras as well that are quite entertaining.

Well Animated and Keeps The Kids Amused
20 February 2005
This movie which almost immediately appeared on DVD at an ultra budget price should be snapped up quickly by anybody with young kids. This movie has been played more times than any of the Disney titles since its been purchased and given the name "Help I'm a Bish" by one happy little girl... It may not have the Disney credentials but its certainly beautiful to look at and with some not bad songs thrown in to the mix will put a smile on any youngsters face (or just keep them quite for a while, which will put a smile on your face).

So don't overlook this little gem if you have a youngster of pre school age, they will love Help I'm a Bish :-)

The predictable ending surprised me!
11 February 2005
I started watching this movie after hearing some bad word of mouth from friends who had already seen it. It started off a little slow but about halfway through I was starting to feel the hair on the back of my neck stand up...and thought to myself that this movie is a lot better than i had been told. Unfortunately it didn't last! After building up so much tension (and actually starting to scare me...a little)it blew it all away with the last 20 mins or so of the movie...I never expected that predictable ending so it did surprise me...do you think that was the point?

Anyway you look at it this is your typical straight to video/DVD script and to see some of the people involved in the movie there must be a low budget movie script writer somewhere laughing all the way to the bank...as its the same script he sells each time with a different title only this time he hit the jackpot!

Catch it on TV don't waste time or money before hand!

Very Depressing!
1 February 2005
I didn't find this movie raw, shocking, or very explicit in the way it handles relationships and sex... I did find it extremely boring with very few redeeming qualities at all, i found it very hard to sit in the cinema and watch this to the end but only because it bored me to tears! Mike Nichols as a director can normally be relied on to bring real human emotion to even the most depressing subjects, try renting any other film he has ever directed...as this is his worst so far by a very long way! If the comments made by most of the rest of the audience on the way out the cinema, no matter how much publicity this film gets word of mouth by the paying audience should make sure this movie does not have a long run in UK cinemas...although i found the 101mins is 101mins too long!

Really Popular Movie When Released
5 January 2005
This movie was a big hit at the cinema when it was first released and then again as a video rental....Those were the days! The soundtrack was also a big hit and most of the songs were chart hits on the back of the movie, and not just the Phil Collins songs who was at the height of his popularity as a solo artist at the time. The story and movie itself is far from being as bad as some of the reviews here make out, its an upbeat movie for the most part and still watchable. Phil Colins can act, although he hasn't really had the chance to show that in very many roles since. The fact that you could pick this movie up free on DVD recently with a newspaper and if you missed that offer can pop into any Poundland in the UK and pick it up for a pound (on a double bill with Diamond of Jeru) I'd recommend you looking it up...even only if its to hear that great soundtrack again..5/10

I tried watching it again...
12 February 2004
I wrote a review of this movie further down after buying it on DVD and being sorely disapointed.

I tried watching it again after reading a few of the comments made since then. Being a film student and making similar budgeted movies myself (ie no budget, shot on digi cam), I stand by my original comments. This is a no budget student project (and not a particularly good one), released on video/dvd to look like an award winning film (if you read the cover). So deceving the public into thinking it's something it's not. I want my money back under the trades description act! Complete Rubbish!

One of the worst interpretations of a Stephen King story...
12 February 2004
Even Stephen King can't make a movie out of one of his horror stories, if this movie is anything to go by. The short story it's based on is not a classic Stephen King tale but it's certainly no where near as bad as the movie. If you want to see a good movie based on a Stephen King story the general rule is avoid the horror's. Shawshank Redemption, Stand by Me, The Green Mile etc.. are classic movies all based on Mr Kings stories, so why can't anyone film a classic horror story based on one of his books? Not even the great man himself. There have been one or two that are watchable (The Dark Half, Carrie), but still not classic movies.

Lookin' Italian? Lookin at a bad movie
7 November 2003
If you took this movie and edited it down to 15 mins you would have a parody that would not look out of place in something like the Kentucky Fried Movie. As it is the over acting, shoddy direction and awful script just add up to another wasted hour and a half.

Excellent Made for TV Jack The Ripper Story
1 October 2002
This has to rate as one of the best of these 'mini' series dramas, and good old Michael Caine puts in one of his better performances of recent years. I've seen a few comments about the availability of this on DVD, well it has been released fully uncut in the UK on DVD. The DVD itself is worth looking out for as it really looks excellent, much better than VHS or TV, although Full Screen (but I suppose that's how it was made being a TV Movie).

Not a bad effort for Tobe Hooper
16 June 2002
Firstly don't confuse this movie with the classic title 'Alligator' or you will be dissapointed. This movie is just your teens in the woods horror film but the madman/killer is replaced by a giant crocodile. The CGI Effects for the Croc are not bad, but the scenes with the rubber model are pathetic, and there are more of them than the CGI stuff. Overall the production values are not bad for a low budget film of this sort, but if you want to see a movie with a Gator/Croc get a hold of the 80's classic Alligator.
