Hancock (2008)

What's happening?
3 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I may expect from movies too much, but most of all have lately been disappointing.

I love Will Smith. He is a marvellous, talented actor and he can make any crap a good comedy. I love Charlize Theron. She's a real actress - she can make believe her every time she acts.

This movie has something; something that catches and doesn't let you go out of cinema. Most of all jokes are incredibly good - that's because they're new and unheard.

So what sucks this film?

Script! What the hell were they thinking? Such a good idea: a superhero, who's an asshole. But the plot was so boring... Every new event seemed to be perspective, but no one was developed. Being an asshole --> going to prison --> being a nice guy.. And then it was. The best part of movie. Charlize's character was a superhero too. Oh my dear god! That was awesome! I enjoyed every moment between Will and Charlize. In fact, the scene of their fight was too expressive, but dialogues and phrases were great. This turning - what was important - was very impressive. But a few minutes later, this good was taken from me too.

Mary (Charlize) and her boyfriend human-being stayed together, although he would be a grandpa thirty years later, what we couldn't say about Mary ('cause she was not getting old). And Hancock became a nice superhero, who couldn't have normal relationship, so he seemed as a miserable loner in the end.

Again, what were they thinking??

The Happening (2008)

Not bad, but definitely not good too
20 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Let me say The Happening is not a total mess, but if we compare it to The 6th Sense, then yes, it is.

The cast. My favourite actor of this movie is Mark Wahlberg. He plays Elliot, who is smart, strong and handsome. That actress who is supposed to be Elliot's wife doesn't seem to be very talented, but at least she is not annoying and I kinda like her. All the other actors are pretty good, so I have no rebukes.

The plot. No offence, Mr Night, but the environment thing doesn't make sense. I agree that plants may poison, but they have no brains, so how can "the happening" be a warning? Why is the wind so important, if toxic is exuded to the air that people breath? The comedy. Actually, I love all the jokes which are told in the movie. They sound naturally.

The horror. OK, the scene with the pin is laughable, because it cannot be possible. But the movie has its moments. Sometimes it's really scary! The most frightful character is Mrs Jones. God, she freaked me out! The end. Not bad! It's luck there is not absolutely happy ending. However, I am happy the main characters are alive. It would add some dramatic, though.

Clean & Clear
18 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Clean and clear - that is what I would say if someone asked me to describe this movie in two words.

'Two Weeks Notice' has no special jumps in the plot and the culmination is not very thrilling, but somehow this movie gets your attention. Where is the secret of the film? First of all, great cast. I cannot help, but notice that Hugh Grant looks even more gorgeous than ever. Sandra Bullock is cute as always. Their comedy skills are undeniable; actually, everyone played their roles perfectly. Second, one of the things which make this movie so attractive is simple and every-day jokes. If you see the movie, you will never forget Bullock's hair sticked into Grant's pants zipper. Third, a banal idea which is presented as very contemporary. Two people who are very different still can be together. Or contrasts attract each other. Well-known phrases, aren't they? But this movie talks about nowadays, about a rich man and an average-class young woman. Hugh Grant's character is so cute that his business which destroys environment seems to be "just his job". Like I said, the characters are very well-done and realistic.

After all, the ending cannot be more wonderful. I think it's the only romantic comedy which ending is not a rain-kiss scene or something like that. It is a very laughable final, I can say. And I loved that.

8,5/10 it means 9/10 :)

You may realize you need an anger management too
17 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this movie just a few minutes ago and I can say I am in quite good moods. So here are the pluses and minuses of 'Anger Management'.

+ First of all, this film is not a typical comedy. Nowadays I can hardly find a nice and quite realistic comedy with an interesting unpredictable plot and great cast. So that is why I appreciate those rare movies without hot chicks and romantic silly jokes. Like I have just said, actors are behind hilarious (and yes, I can say the same about Adam Sandler!). He plays an ordinary guy David, who has a marvelous girlfriend, a bad boss and his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend, who is her best friend and has a huge penis (well, this part is banal, I can say). However, Sandler fits his role pretty well. I cannot say the same about Nicholson... Because he does it PERFECTLY! I have to admit I love Jack making comedies. He is so expressive!

  • I am sorry, but the scene on the plane makes me very mad! I am sure I am not a psycho, because, hey, who would not get nervous if a person laughed too loudly when you tried to sleep? Or let me remind you of the first David's visit to Buddy's group. I would really get nervous if someone asked me who I was and did not explain what kind of answer he wanted. So let's face it, the plot is not perfect.

The kissing scene is not bad, but I find it quite weird that a man can kiss his girl in the front of people only after a course of anger management. Just weird!

Barefoot (2005)
10/10
Maybe the best love story after 'Titanic'
5 May 2008
Warning: Spoilers
There was no kiss, but I could call 'Barefoot' one of the most marvellous movies I have ever seen.

I've always known Til Schweiger has impressive good looks and charm, but I had no idea about his talent of directing. 'Barefoot' is a strange love story about a careless bachelor, who cannot find his place under the sun, and a young naive mental patient, who wants to get out of life or at least hospital.

Actors are absolutely perfect. It's a great pleasure to watch a movie with professionals. Til Schweiger who stars as Nick Keller looks gorgeous when he has to look gorgeous, behaves like an asshole when he has to behave so and is a little bit pathetic when he has to be. Johanna Wokalek who stars as Leila made not such a good impression in the beginning, because she pretends to be not so good-looking, but subsequently every viewer falls in love with her. She's charming exactly because of her specific features. Other actors are very convincing too, except Stefanie Stappenbeck, because her character was unnecessary.

In addition, dialogues and soundtrack are just incredible. You can find a meaningful sense in every move, every word, every note.

Nevertheless, the whole complex is just what charms so much. Everything is in its own place. There are many scenes which make you laugh and cry and muse. I gave ten points for this movie, so I hope everyone will go and watch 'Barefoot', because it's one of those rare films, which are worthy of our precious time.
