The High Court (2017)
Don't expect much, but enjoy it for what it is
This show is a hot mess.
That's not usually how an 8/10 review starts, but it's true, and it must be established upfront. The show is not cerebral, the litigants are not particularly likable and the premise itself isn't exactly must-see TV.
And yet this show is pretty entertaining. It is cast in 15 minute vignettes, 10-12 airtime minutes of quirky people, general confusion and so, so much weed.
As long as you don't go in expecting anything more than a complete mess, you will probably get a few solid laughs out of each episode. The funniest parts are the deliberations, and usually it's the bailiffs who are most entertaining.
Judge Doug gets a surprising number of verdicts right (I'd say he bats about .700). The remainder, in my opinion are totally botched, but what did you expect - great legal wisdom from great legal minds?
It's a train wreck, but it wouldn't be fun if it wasn't. Enjoy it for what it is.
