The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants (2018)
The Worst Kid's Show Ever
This show was manufactured to be as annoying as possible. I don't mind the books but the show is just repeated annoying noises. There is no humor, close to zero story... I recommend just pretending it doesn't exist, even if your kid is a Captain Underpants fan. It is actually physically painful to experience and makes me feel nauseous, that's how abrasive it is. And I grew up with the likes of Looney toons and Ren and Stimpy so I am not too easily annoyed. This is on another level. Anyone involved on this show should be banished from working in the industry ever again. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
Andor (2022)
Acting is ok, visuals are great, plot is missing.
Andor feels like a movie's worth of plot strecthed to fill a series. While it is lauded as a "more mature" Star Wars, it is severely lacking in depth and character development. Many of the scenes seem to repeat themselves over and over throughout the series, with no meaningful impact on the story. Characters appear to be going through the motions, just having things happen to them. The dialogue is very surface level, it is hard to feel any connection to anyone in the show. The two driving arcs so far, a heist and a prison break, are just about the most top card laziest ideas but they are somewhat compelling I guess. It just feels like the writers struggled to figure out how to build up to these events. The show feels very empty contentwise most episodes.
Visually, the show is well done. It does not look cheap.
The acting is ok. Diego Luna is very wooden, which sometimes works in his favor, most of the time it does not. Everyone else is doing a decent job, especially Dierdra the ISB agent. Unfortunately the actors are not given much to work with.
Why do I keep watching? Well I was hoping the show may get its footing and go somewhere. But with the most recent episodes it feels more and more recycled. Like it is treading water.
