The Profile (2010)
Poignant and timely
The Profile is a poignant and timely piece in this age when we are struggling as a country to reach a balance between our rights and our security.
On the one hand, some believe if you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide or fear, so a loss of privacy and rights is a small price to pay for safety. While others believe that our civil liberties should not be sacrificed for any purpose because they are what define us a nation and differentiate us from our enemies.
This film explores the line between the two in a powerful way.
I don't want to reveal what happens, but I can say that Director Wang is showing his creativity and ability to convey a message in a powerful way by telling a story that we can relate to.
I look forward to more work from Wang and hope to see him explore full length features as well.
