A lovely dream of a film
20 March 2003
Such a beautiful, lush movie, the director, who made this years "Y tu mama tambien", Alfonso Cuaron creates not just a credible and interesting real world, but an amazing imaginary land that is a treat to view. I really enjoyed this movie, and wish more people would give it a shot and watch it, a truly underrated children's film- we have talking kangaroo films, sequel after sequel of athletic golden retriever movies, this picture is something unique and special. I believe Alfonso Cuaron is going to direct the third installment of the Harry Potter movies, and after the bland, ham-handed direction of Christopher Columbus, I am thrilled to hear that someone that I *know* can bring fantasy to life (with what I am sure was a much smaller budget) will be directing. See this film, if you hate it, e mail me and I will gladly refund your rental fee (you freak of nature ;) thomas_gina@yahoo.com

Do you love Dialogue? Don't mind profanity? This is it!
30 September 2002
I love this movie- everything the charactors say are things my friends and I would say if we were a bit smarter & funnier (but we are able to be as profane, thank you). I adore Jason Lee, will watch him in basically anything, is deliver really works for me. I also think Ben Afflack is great, I think this is just an example of his interesting a brave choices, he doesn't just pick the independent flicks, or just the big flicks, hell even his art films aren't paticularly arty, just watch him to the cabbage patch, it isn't pretty!

Sally gets screwed again!!
12 August 2002
Even though this film's trailer and poster imply that Sally Hemmings was an important character, I might not have been as shocked to discover she was just a minor (and I do mean Minor) character if this movie was suppose to being told by Sally's very own family! I mean if you are going to tell the story of a member of your family that has been ignored by history, would you really tell it with the man who relegated her to obscurity at the main character? His other lover (who happens to be white) as the actual love interest? I know I wouldn't! I am as pale as they come and normally a big fan of Merchent~Ivory flicks, but I couldn't stomach this film's treatment of poor Sally Hemmings.

The Realest Movie about Love Ever!
12 August 2002
I adore this film, a funny, if at times, bleak, look at love and marriage. You see the charming way the Roses meet and the life afterwards, all the way to their unique til death did they part. I am in a happy committed relationship, but I can still appreciate the universal truth of this movie, living with someone is hard! That it is almost impossible to get a divorce without looking stupid at one point or another, and that usually the source of the pettiness is the sad fact one spouse still loves someone that has grown sick of them. Women and men can both find something to appreciate in this film, and unless you are going through a tough divorce(in particular there is a scene where the One Being Left asks the Leaver Why they are leaving and the Leaver tells them in painful detail, funny for me, might not be if I was ever left!), this movie never fails to make me laugh.

Saw it 9 years ago, I have never forgotten it
15 May 2002
When I saw this I was completely moved, it is honest, amusing, touching and at times painful. It is always very real, and in 'Truth' (as in life) sometime what is real is so shocking and weird that if it wasn't true it wouldn't be funny but since it is, you have to laugh at what life throws at you. I love this show, I too have wanted to see it again, but can't find it anywhere, but I did find the book at the library and it is very good, but you miss the man, Rick. He is funnier than Jerry, more loveable than Ray, I don't know where he is but I want to see what he does next!
