Commando (1985)
I just don't buy it
O.K. let me start of buy saying that when this first came out in '85(I was 12),like a lot of people at the time I ate this up.I think that what was IN in the 80's certainly would not pass today.looking back at this I'm thinking to myself, man this is what you would see in a cartoon or a comic book,I think most people today would say that this is completely stupid(including myself).Even Rambo which I also thought was quite stupid was a little better than this,I mean the scene at the end of the movie when Arni goes up against god knows how many soldiers and they are all shooting at him and they all miss Arni shoots right through them all like a video game,I mean that is as fantastic as back to the future or star trek.Another thing do people notice that during that big one man invasion, that some of the soldiers that our hero kills suddenly reappear later on in the sequence and die again. This movie would be under action in the video stores, but it should be under fantasy really. The only part I like was when Arni beats up a bunch of security guards in the mall in front of a dozen spectators, now that scene really touched me.I also think that Collateral Damage was better but it to was a little far fetched.
Supernova (2000)
Can't compete with Star Wars or Star Trek
When I first saw this movie in the theaters I was expecting another Star Wars or Star Trek, and I was somewhat disappointed. In Science Fiction movies I usually like watching robots and aliens, but the film did not have any of that.It was all about a ship millions of light years from earth that seems to be stuck in a suns gravity field, that was an interesting plot but I think it could have been way better.I wasn't impressed by the crewman that turned into a superhuman. The only really good parts were the warp drive scenes, they were such awsome effects. The spaceship looked pretty cool too,it looks a lot better than the starship enterprise from Star Trek
War Party (1988)
A Native American Rosewood
This film will probably remind people of a indian rosewood. But this storyline isn't so accurate, the action scenes are like a circus especially the carnival fight(It reminded me of a soprano episode last week)When do modern day police use double barreld shotguns and old fashion 45 peacemakers, not to mention the level action rifles I thought it was supposed to take place in the 80's. Somehow it appears that the national guard soilders at the end of the movie think there in Vietnam, they play volleyball while camping out in the badlands waiting to capture the two young indian suspects.Released in '89 this was probably the beginning of the politically correct era in movies. It came out a year and a half before Dances with Wolves, and the indians are no longer the bad guys. The movie on the other hand will entertain you with comic book action and will also so get you mad seeing the unjustice & racsim that the indians are going through.
Summer of Sam (1999)
Go ahead and laugh, but I though this was somewhat funny
Let me start off by saying that this was a o.k. movie and certinly not the best, I will not bragg like some other users do (I have a feeling).Very much like Studio 54,but a lot more violent and from the very begining we all know who the killer is just by reading a history book before watching the movie. And that kind of takes away the fun of the movie and all we get a bunch of screaming rabel rousing New Yorkers who then start accusing each other of being the killer. The film then becomes a enjoyable circus especialy the lynch mob scene at the end.
Why does every movie about the 70's always have to have music in the backround every 3 minutes or so,they want us not to forget that its the 70's but we know its the 70's.Dont get me wrong I like the music in this movie like during the opening scene when Vinny & Dionna were dancing to "the grace of god" but I dont have to be reminded every 3 min that its the 70's. One last note:For those of you who are upset about John Leguizamo playing an Italian, just keep in mind that Al Pachino played a Hispanic in both Scarface & Carlito's way so SHUT UP AND GET A LIFE!!!
Detroit Rock City (1999)
I ADMIT I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT KISS, BUT I STILL ENJOYED IT A LOT
Like many others,I think this movie is very funny,it reminds me a lot of rock n roll high school. This movie is also adventuress. The boys somehow belive they where actully ment to go to this kiss concert. But face with a lot of opposition to get there, they run into a school security guard,Jam's right-wing mother,a little/big brother bully gang, ect. But they remain commited to try to attend this concert. With rebellious and hilarious scenes, this is my type of film.Even though this movie is also very anti-conservative,but the mothers scene was also hilarious. My favorate part was when she yells at Jam over the loud speaker so that the entire school can hear and laugh(I GIGGLED SO HARD DURING THAT SCENE).I didn't know christians belived in smoking.
