Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji (2011)
Madhur Bhandarkar does an Expose on LOVE
People - Please hear this - This is not a Romantic Comedy. This is a BLACK COMEDY on Love (at least 99% of it, excepting the strange climax)
After tackling the High society (PAGE THREE), Political Class (SATTA), the corporate world (CORPORATE) and the Galmourous Fashion Industry(FASHION) and other notable endeavors(CHANDNI BAR, TRAFFIC SIGNAL, JAIL) , Madhur takes on LOVE or at least the HAPPY ENDING version of it, turns its around on its head and presents a movie that is never UNREAL.
If you leave the theater after the 3 heartbreaking endings, you will loathe love for the rest of your life. Maybe, this and some box office considerations introduce the climax at the airport where the three Men, having resolved to never fall in love, find , maybe, their soul mates.
The first half is fun - You have a smile throughout and the next half is the one where real drama happens.
Don't watch this if you can't handle heartbreaking endings.
Let's hope we have a sequel soon.
Skin Deep (1989)
Surprise! -Inspirational movie of the year
The movie is about a booze cum sex addict, played by the late John Ritter, who has given up on what he loves most in the world - Hos loyal wife and his talent for writing.
We are treated to numerous mis-adventures he has in the movie, which are quite realistic. Still, all that pales in comparison to Traffaut's delightful - The man who loved women.
The ending, however, seals the deal. He has now given up alsohol, writtten a best seller and is back with his wife!. If this hopeless character can turn it around, anyone in the world can.
People - Watch it not for thrills but for this!
The Last Airbender (2010)
This is the next LORD OF THE RINGS !!!!
I have added this comment on account of the rash of bad reviews this seems to be getting.
I am from India, HAVE NEVER SEEN THE SHOW this movie is based on and LOVED THIS MOVIE.
People, look at the positives - This has the potential to be the NEXT LORD OF THE RINGS..Awesome Fx, a good storyline, beautiful locales, a fresh cast. This has a lot going for it. Personally, was satisfied by this movie more than, yes, I said it, its other famous and more moneymaking NAMESAKE. At least this movie did not have UGLY ALIENS as the leads and was a decent and family friendly movie.
Shyamlan has redeemed himself with this.Let's hope the planned sequel materializes.
Mission Istaanbul: Darr Ke Aagey Jeet Hai! (2008)
Mission Accomplished - Superb Action, Superb Entertainment
It seems most of the reviewers have just seen the review of this film and have written their comments.
Mission Istaanbul - superb action. This is a movie where the makers have been fearless enough to show terrorism in its true colours - a business run for money and power. Ideology is just an excuse to hide something very ugly.
The scenes of stoning a woman as a sport in Afghanistan are chilling. We have heard about it, but nothing like this has been attempted on Indian screens before.
The makers of the film should be lauded for making a superb entertainer and actioner.
Both Vivek Oberoi and Zayed are great in their roles. It does seem that you are watching a Hollywood actioner.
Watch the film and decide for yourself.
I had a lot o expectations from the film after SHOOTOUT IN LOKHANDWALA. The makers have delivered.
Wicker Park (2004)
Beautiful music, great cast
This is a movie experience not to be missed. The soundtrack is impeccable and adds to the overall mood of the film. Josh Hartnett, Rose Byrne, Diane Krueger are all wonderful in a movie, which keeps you guessing till the end..
Many a times, we lose people based on misunderstandings. We feel justified in our actions but never know what our actions might have meant to the other person.
The real scary problem comes when someone else uses their proximity to one of the persons to achieve their ends.
This is a movie, where Matt and Lisa are pushed to be together innumerable times. However, we know that life does not give us so many chances.
Then, there is also unrequited love - Which causes most of the confusions in the story.
The movie is superbly directed - Some sequences like the flashback and the climax are standouts, pure eye candy.
I am not a fan of either Josh Hartnett or Diane Krueger, but their chemistry works big time in this movie.
This is based on a French movie - L Appartmente - Guess this is a superb version.
Watch this film to be rewarded with quality entertainment.
Ultimo tango a Parigi (1972)
bits & pieces of Last Tango in Paris
I haven't watched many Marlon Brando movies, only 1. The Godfather.
2. Last Tango in Paris.
3. Superman 4. The Freshman 5. Don Juan De Marco.
This list doesn't include "On The waterfront", "A streetcar named desire". I plan on watching them someday.
Getting back to the topic, however, I'd like to specifically talk about "The last Tango in Paris" I just had to write a review for a movie i feel is one of the best acted & directed ever.
I'd bought the DVD not for Brando but because of the controversial scenes of Maria Schneider. But, I was blown away by what Brando did in this movie.
Granted, this is not a pretty movie in your "Sound of the Music" kind of a way. But the depth he brought to the character created a deep mark.
THE FIRST VIOLATION: What was meant to be seen as an act of excess was that, but so finely done. Man, the chemistry the duo shared was awesome.
THE BUTTER SEQUENCE: Brando applies butter to Maria Schneider. The act is repulsive but their dialogue before this sequence was magnificent. The Somersault by Brando was surprising & powerful.
LAST TANGO IN Paris: Brando had left Maria alone and comes back to her in the end. He tries to convince her by childish looking antics but she has slipped away. He then purses her relentlessly to tell her his name (They haven't told each other their names so far!)She shoots him. Then, she says to herself that she's going to tell the police "I don't even know his name". Priceless.
Last Tango in Paris does not deserve the bad name it has. It doesn't deserve people watching it only for the BUTTER scene. It doesn't deserve to be called PORNOGRAPHIC.
Maybe, if these sequences had been cut, the film would've had a wider audience it really deserved. The audiences came, but to be titillated, not to watch a great movie.
I was genuinely surprised that a supposedly DIRTY movie could pack so much punch. The actual full frontal nudity shown by Schneider is BEAUTIFUL.It isn't vulgar. It is hard to do full frontal nudity and not look uncomfortable. She deserved an Oscar for this performance.
North by Northwest (1959)
Truly an entertainer !
This is not your average Hitchcock Movie. By "Your average Hitchcock movie" I mean stuff like Psycho,Marnie, Vertigo, Rear Window etc. which either have a very depressing end or a depressing protagonist.
This movie is more an action Comnedy. The first 15 minutes had me in splits. Then the suspense comes on. Then the magnificent action sequences. The Crop dusting chase, the Mt.Rushmore sequences would give any Bond movie or any other pretentious Big Budget Actioner a run for their money.
My only regret was that the protagonist was played by Cary Grant. He may have been a looker, but he looked plain old here. Bent back, drooping shoulders, the movie actually deserved Gregory Peck, who would've looked far better.
Still, this is a must watch movie for any fan of cinema. A perfect entertainer. This one is due for a big budget remake.
Fracture (2007)
Great plot, Great acting, awesome lines. That would be all!
This movie is surprisingly good. I am not an courtroom movie buff, though I liked "The Rainmaker", but this was pure psychological joy. Anthony Hopkins plays the bad guy Ted Crawford really well. You, for sometime, actually feel sympathy for him.
Ryan Gosling as Willy ,at first, looks pretentious, arrogant, and a man obsessed to winning above all else. The movie is how you come to change your first impressions about people. I would not give the plot here(many comments have already done that). These were some of my take aways from the movie.
* Never get complacent and overconfident. Smart people like Ted Crawford can look into that and utilize that weakness pretty well.
* There is always a loophole. Look for it like Willy looks for the gun.
* Sometimes, there's no better thrill than just putting a stake through the Bad Guy. Money can never compensate for that feeling.
At the end, i would say that the movie is really well written. One example is the following exchange between Willy's boss and Willy as he is about to leave for a private sector job.
BOSS: You really belong here.
WILLY: With all due respects ,sir, I didn't work all this hard to stay where i belong.
Plus that poem Willy reads to the comatose victim in the hospital and the lines about "The most useless time of them all, The Waiting time" really ring true.
I really cannot recommend a movie higher. Watch it, You won't be disappointed.
