Eyes of Laura Mars (1978)
"Unique gem"
It's unique and and entertaining both at the same time. The stories sort of funny but it has a certain type of vibe that I just plain like. The movies paced pretty well and we get some decent kills along the way. It reminds me of a more sexualized Black Christmas movie.
Tenebre (1982)
"Wow"
All I have to say is fantastic job for the director Dario Argento. This film is really unsettling and I mean that in a good way. It really keeps up with the suspense and the plot of the film is well thought out, like the producers actually wanted to accomplish something. It definitely shows in Tenebrae, from the score to the deaths it's a wicked blast that will make you bite your nails unit the end.
Bad Dreams (1988)
"Absolutely worthless"
I'm giving it 2 stars for the fact that it does attempt at something, ripping off a nightmare on elm street dream warriors. This movie is so predictable it's upsetting and kind of impossible to cope with. The movie gave me bad anxiety just waiting for the steamer to finally end. It was a waste of my time. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is for the fact it has a few decent jump scares. Your welcome.
Christine (1983)
"Carpenter never fails"
I feel like even with the cult following Christine has had in the recent years it deserves well over the amount of positive criticism that it gets. I mean if John Carpenter can make a car scary, he can literally make anything scary. What is the most intriguing about this movie is the fact that the pacing really never ends and the suspense remains high.
The Fan (1981)
"Cheap but pleasurable"
The fan 1981 feels absolutely cheap besides the successful actors/actresses who play in this movie. Although this movie plays out and ends up being pretty good overall and I actually enjoyed the film, the pacing is pretty good, it gradually gets more interesting as the movie goes on. If you get past the sleazy ness of the film, I think it's rather enjoyable.
Mortuary (1982)
"Extremely enjoyable and underrated"
This movie delivers I mean it's a slasher film so by no means is it a masterpiece. But this film instead of focusing on the kills, focused on its pacing and also its character development which I absolutely loved, because not many other 80s slashers did the same thing. I think the idea behind the film stuck out a little bit but other than that it's a pretty damn enjoyable and fun movie highly recommend.
Visiting Hours (1982)
"Not great but decent" it try's
I will Admit that visiting hours keeps some solid elements that makes for some suspense. But the film lacks formula and try's to make its own type of "slasher" that fails to attempt its own success. Micheal Ironside performance was good..... but nobody else really stood out.
Alone in the Dark (1982)
"Not a bad movie"
Honestly alone in the dark is a pretty good horror movie. I like concept of having multiple killers. It makes it a lot more intense because you never know when someone is lurking around. The acting isn't the greatest, I've seen better pleasance puts on a pretty good performance. Towards the end of the movie it starts to unwind and slows down but the first two thirds of the movie is really terrifying! Definitely an enjoyable movie if your in the mood for campy 80s horror.
Just Before Dawn (1981)
"a unique and disturbing touch of the genre"
Just before dawn is one of the most disturbing horror movies from the 80s. It marks one of the most eerie settings of any horror thriller i can think of. And the concept is very interesting. First off if you've never seen Texas chainsaw massacre then you probably haven't seen just before dawn. The same feeling you get from Texas Chainsaw massacre you get from this movie. Its slow at the start but well paced to keep you gripped to the edge of your seat. This movie can fool you on how deceiving the beautiful nature can be.
The Burning (1981)
"probably the best out of the slasher genre"
The burning definitely ranks as one of the most underrated horror movies of the time. But this film deserves more hype than it receives. The acting in this movie succeeds any other slasher film around this time. The plot is decent and the violence is grisly! One of the thing that makes this film stand out above the rest is the quality of the special effects done by tom savini. To me this is one of his best. You can for sure see the dedication and effort put into this movie and that's why the burning has such an amazing cult following. Because it doesn't even know its so well done!
