Boooooooorrrrriiiiiinnnnngggg!!!!
26 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Don't know how I can spoil this as it was too dull to pay that much attention to

So basically the premise is about a girl who loses her mother and loses her love for running (at normal human speed for her age) until she puts on a bracelet that slows down time and allows her to see God's and demons. She then has to run from one shrine to another (At normal human speed for her age) and deliver the food offerings to some sort of elemental hybrid god at the end of a big staircase

There's a big deal made about her mother being some errand girl running around once a year for the gods (at normal human speed I'm guessing for her age).

There were a few animation shifts and unlike The Cuphead Show the differences feel really out of place and don't blend at all with other scenes. There's a mix of 2d and 3d right at the beginning that feels very Mowgli like in the worst possible way. Like there were people drawn in 2d pressed against a 3d forest and it looks terrible. The main character is supposed to be 12 but everyone she's around looks about 9 yet they're almost as tall as their parents.

That's basically what you can expect from the rest of the film. It's boring. Full of animation that doesn't blend together. The pacing is awful. The characters go into Japanese mythology in ways that confuse more than they entertain and honestly I didn't give a damn about any of it.

Komi Can't Communicate (2021–2022)

You soon see it for the gimmick it is

Warning: Spoilers
I'm incredibly disappointed with how this anime progressed. In the first episode there is an incredibly moving moment when the main characters spend all day writing to each other on a blackboard. It's from here I think "Wow, this show really thought outside the box". Little did I know it'd soon stuff that forward thinking back into a box with a rusty pole and set it on fire.

Because what follows is just your run of the mill high school anime complete with hyperactive characters with their own unique quirks. Quirks like wanting to be a literal dog to our main character for sexual satisfaction. Kidnapping and threatening to murder her best friend if she doesn't go out with her. Possibly being a boy but nobody knows for sure. Wanting to best her at every little thing but being no good at any of it. A girl who treats the lead like a princess from an RPG. And a Ninja....yea, for some reason there's a guy whose a ninja. Did I mention they all shout....like every line, and nearly all of them provide fan service in nearly every scene they're in

Also. No matter how crazy their actions get the main character ends up friends with them. Let me remind you that one of them literally tied up her friend and stuffed him in a closet because she wanted into her panties

I thought Japan was done producing this kind of loud mindless sexist gimmick fest, but to my horror this came out in 2021!! Really???

With such a sweet opening episode you wonder why it isn't a movie so they can condense the nonsense into an hour and a half. I'd recommend watching Erased.

Arcane (2021– )

Not usually one to say this but it's a masterpiece

You can tell that everyone involved gave their right arm to work on this show. I was skeptical given that it's based on a game and those never bode well but from the first ten seconds the visuals had me hooked. You won't believe some of the animation unfolding before you. The dialogue, the world building and defined characters

The only nitpicks I'd give it is that it can at times be a bit too confusing. I'm only on episode 7 and there's been no real explanation for why magic exists in this universe. Just that its something that can be harnessed. There's also quite a lot of characters and sub plots to keep up with.

8.3? It's really a 5 at best

Warning: Spoilers
Pros - Unique, colourful animation. Incorporates a lot of South American culture. Interesting use of black borders around the screen

Cons - Hideous character designs. Hard to hear dialogue and the dialogue seems to be written for people under 10

I see where everyone is coming from with this series but I'm sorry. The way its written is just childish. Everyone is driven by a desire to look cool and no big issues are resolved almost instantly.

For example in one episode Maya suddenly has a thing for the Prince of Bats for "Reasons". The only two times they've exchanged words is when he's out to kill her. So why would she suddenly act like she has a crush.

This show is clever and really funny!!
6 August 2021
I needed a gap filler one night while my wife was watching her soaps in the living room and I gotta say, I was not expecting how good this would be. The visual humour is great (and I love my silent comedy) but sometimes a bit stretched out and it takes Chip and Dale into the modern world in a way you'd think wouldn't be possible

I'm a big kid and I cannot recommend this enough. It is clever, funny, and knows what its doing. The only reason I don't give it a higher rating is because it does there are scenes that drag a bit.
