Extended Family (2023–2024)

I like it
1 February 2024
It's a funny take on an awkward situation that many go through with coparenting. It's your standard sitcom corny and it's enjoyable. It is crazy to see how low the other scores are. I watched all available episodes in one sitting. The dynamic between the exes and the new spouse is funny. The children are great and I definitely hope others catch on so this show gets some life. The first episode takes on the death of the family pet and how to handle it. Give it a chance, we need more family fun sitcoms that are light and realistic. The sharing one home is fresh and unlike anything I have seen yet.

The Iron Claw (2023)

Wow, this one surprised me
15 January 2024
I went in thinking oh it's just another wrestling movie, but boy was it such a deep look at the drive of a father to get his dream anyway possible at any expense.

It was a visceral reaction you feel as you get to know the different sons and see just how the drive to be "the best" can take the toll on the whole family.

It was hard to watch how this mother and father acted and just experiencing the raw emotion each son went through. It was well written and well done. As someone who never heard of this curse or even this family, you didn't need to even like wrestling to understand the despair Kev must have felt!

Role Play (2024)
8/10
Fun action movie till the last minute
11 January 2024
Emma loves her family and would do anything to keep them safe, and they don't need to know all the details of her day to day. When she gets back from a work trip and forgets her anniversary she makes it up to her husband by taking him to the city for a night of sexy role play. The night starts to go off the rails and you follow her journey of securing her family life she loves so much and what she actually does for work.

As you do with any action movie just go along for the ride and enjoy the things the times when it all comes together. It's fun and I love the husband and wife dynamic, they make a beautiful couple.

He is just a nice guy
10 January 2024
I can say at first I really thought I had this movie down, and I worried Cassandra seemed predictable. Boy was I wrong, the way the movie showed what women truly go through, growing up in a metropolitan region you know that you are always a target. The way the men didn't care she couldn't stand or speak, it's just about them getting theirs.

Mid way with the introduction to Ryan, I was like great a "good guy" but let's be honest the "good guy" is few and far between.

The way the movie concludes completely was unexpected and I can say it was really good. If you never have experienced men treating you like that, count yourself lucky, because this felt like it could happen to any of us.

Must see- if it is hard to watch, imagine living it
9 January 2024
I saw this movie in AMC screen unseen, and I only share that so you get that I had zero clue what I was walking in on.

With that I have to say at first the movie was slow, I understood that it started with the retelling of Travon Martin, then just bounced between time periods to show injustices during Nazi Germany and the following times from many different points of view. The main character went through a lot of personal turmoil but her purpose was clear, she felt there was an underlying connection between a lot of the injustices and mistreatment among many different sect of people. I have to say this is not an "easy" or "light" movie but it needs to be shown.

When leaving the showing I often go to see the reviews, and to my dismay there was clearly a person who just didn't get it. It is based off a book and I plan to read that more. Do yourself a favor and see this film, it's an important one.

Love Actually (2003)

It was okay
9 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am not sure how I didn't see this movie sooner, but boy does it work to show you love and sadness all in one movie. I recognize I am watching this movie 20 years after it came out so maybe in its heyday it was a much watch. I couldn't help be feel bad for the lady who was being cheated on, the rest of the couples were cute and worth rooting for. I guess that is it though it is what real life looks like around love, so actually it was a good movie. I found myself bored at parts and predicting exactly what would happen. I guess that is a modern day Rom com, you just watch what you assume play out.

Saltburn (2023)

What did I just watch
5 December 2023
I can say it took me some time to work through how to process this movie. It was intoxicating and full of twists and turns. Up until the very last minute I was still not sure what was coming next.

It definitely a take on power and control and what some will do to have everything they want. The main character, is likable and kinda pathetic, you feel for his social awkwardness and his story. When he makes it in with the "cool kids" he gets to have the vacation of his life. Saltburn, where all they do is lounge, have fun and party.

This wild twists will make you want to rewatch and piece it all together!

Cheesy but cute
4 December 2023
It was a pretty cheesy movies where her son (socially awkward and has a stuffed monkey for a best friend) put in a "wrong address" and the family ends up showing up at the husbands ex who sends Christmas letters that seem too good to be true.

After staying the night and planning to leave for the sisters in the morning the snow comes and they are stuck. She makes the best of it but is super suspicious of this overly friendly perfect women (brandy) and they go on some adventures. Yes it's almost too good to be true at times, but it's a cheese Christmas movie! It was moving and cute! Check it out.

Wow, so good!
28 November 2023
I got to see it with AMC screen unseen, and being that it's a mystery movie I didn't know what to expect. It immediately grabbed my attention. The writer sitting on a panel with no crowd while in the next room an author with a book about her "black experience" gets all the attention and standing ovation. Later he went into the book store and his fiction novel is under African American studies and not in fiction like the aforementioned author was.

After his family has a tragedy, he leans into the genre and writes a novel that isn't like the rest. His publisher is skeptic at best but does agree to send it out, all while he has a budding interest with a neighbor who has actually read one of his books.

His mom is getting sicker and his brother isn't helpful but good news the publisher has great news! They bought the new book- even if it was written as a "joke."

Does he decide to "sell out" or stick to his virtues?

Definitely worth a watch! Makes you uncomfortable in all the best ways!

It's dumb but that it's the fun
17 November 2023
I really enjoyed this stupid movie, they are the highlight of SNL and definitely my type of humor. It's corny, little one liners delivered just awkwardly enough to make me crack up. You follow three friends on the adventure for the treasure. Along the way they get robbed, tricked, and end up with a cult.

Time flies when watching this goofy flick and you can't help but root for this absurd friendship. What will come of the treasure? Will they make it out of the forest alive? Will they be millionaires and be happy?

We also get some amazing cameos from Conan O'Brien and Bowen Yang. Definitely worth checking out!

AMC screen unseen
7 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked it, I saw it with AMC screen unseen, so I didn't know what I would get, but I laughed and cared! It was well done, and entertaining! It is definitely worth checking out. I had never heard of the story before but after seeing the movie I did some googling and it based on a documentary. It follows a team that wasn't expected to do well, with an asshole coach, but they learn to come together to figure out how to get "one goal."

It really makes you want to get to know the island, people and culture. It's a film for all ages and worth checking out! The crowd really enjoyed it too. Check it out.
