The Idea of Manhood (2018)
A Ripoff Lynn Shelton's My Effortless Brilliance
A ripoff of the wonderful Seattle indie-filmmaker Lynn Shelton's "My Effortless Brilliance", which was done much better. Even her film "Humpday" has the same sort of premise, two guys discussing typical guy stuff. Much more deep and engrossing. "The Idea of Manhood" is too shallow and the film is unconvincing.

Don't bother
Lots of innocent bystanders get killed in this one. For no apparent reason. Not much else to say about it. Run of the mill sorta spy get the secret package before the Ruskies or Irish get it, bad guys shooting each other, lots of car chase scenes with the ubiquitous excess car crashes. Hollywood typical but takes place in France, I suppose there should be an international feel, but it's rather trite. No pithy philosophizing, no character development, no characters to begin with. Not even a dash of humor or clever dialogue. Don't know why this movie's got such a high rating and raving reviews. Very small deal. Not bad, just boring.
