Run Sweetheart Run (2020)
Had a lot of potential
Started off strong. Interesting cinematography and music choices. Solid acting. And 25 minutes in and it goes South. Extremely unrealistic scenarios. I get it's a film and not reality. But the storyline has to be somewhat grounded in reality (even for a film with a demonic theme) to Keep the viewer engaged. The main character is clearly assaulted and the police arrest her for public intoxication instead of getting her medical assistance. Come on. I get there may have to be certain situations presented to move the story forward but the writers could have done a bit better. Other than that it is entertaining for what it is.
Hellraiser (2022)
Solid remake
I was skeptical going in a bit as Hollywood has gender/race swapped classic film characters to death for the last few years. But it turned out to genuinely due the original justice. Updated cenobites are very disturbing and amazing to look at. All actors are believable in their roles and the storyline flows pretty well. My only complaint is that it is filmed very dark and it's hard to see the characters at times. I found myself having to get up and move close to the TV to get a good look at the villains, which lets be honest, is really why most of us are seeing this film. Needless to say, children should probably not see this.
Monster (2022)
Another Miss for me
I generally liked AHS so I figured I would give this a shot. I was disappointed by Ratchet but since this has Evan Peters and Niecy Nash I thought it may be ok. Once again, this entire series could have been a film and dragged out to the point that I kept tuning out. A lot of that could be because we all know the Jeffrey Dahmer story as it has been beaten to death but it was nice to have it told more from the victim's perspective vs Dahmer. Evan's acting is solid (accent could have been toned down) and it is very stylized but that's it. Watch it if you want to kill some time but as other reviews said, if you are more interested watching to see how the mind of a serial killer works, watch Mindhunter.
Samaritan (2022)
This movie was.... Not good
Badly acted, ridiculous story. I mean Sly was Sly like he is in everything and it is a film adaptation of a comic book but still. Don't think I will be sticking around for the sequel if one is made.
We Own This City (2022)
Skip this series and just read an article online
While I personally liked the series, it is all over the place and hard to follow. Acting is great and it adds authenticity that some of the actors are from Maryland/DC. (God those accents) I was so confused by the time jumping I read an article online about the main character and Then it made it easier to follow. If you don't care about spoilers I suggest that.
I Love That for You (2022)
Becoming increasingly hard to watch
It stated off strong but I am now at episode 6 and some of the characters are becoming so unlikeable that I am skipping through whole scenes just to make it through the episode.
The main character, while sweet, is too awkward at times and it becomes uncomfortable
It will be a surprise if this show sustains an audience enough to be renewed for a second season.
Father of the Bride (2022)
Please stop with the remakes.
Unfortunately another ethnic remake of a classic film that does not hit the mark. As other have said, no chemistry between the leads and it's panders to the Latin culture. Please Hollywood, make ORIGINAL films. Not crappy remakes where genders/ethnicity is being switched to appeal to certain groups.
Choose or Die (2022)
What is the point....
An almost entirely British cast that all play Americans with bad accents???? That aside...: the story is ridiculous and the acting is ehhhhhh. I'd skip if I were you. It feels like an attempt at a bad, B movie from from 80s being made intentionally.
Halloween Kills (2021)
Funniest comedy I have seen in a long time
Honestly, while I am not the biggest fan of the Halloween franchise at least some of the others were somewhat scarey. Even the one with Josh Hartnett and LL Cool J. I am half way through watching this and I've found myself laughing at the bad acting and obsurd storyline. The acting is all over the place (JLC and Judy Greer amazing) but most other acting was ehhh at best (even AMH which was surprising). They may want to start wrapping this series up as it just keeps getting worse and worse with every film.
Dexter: New Blood: Sins of the Father (2022)
Terrible ending in some respects.
Overall this season was good. However, the ending seemed so forced and it could have been better played out over 2 more episodes. The death of Logan was so careless and unlike the Dexter we have grown to love. Then for Harrison to shoot his father just have an ending? It seems as if the writers just wanted to tie things up. And what was even the point of introducing Angel??? Maybe the point was to show how Dexter was becoming unhinged due to his love of Harrison and realized he will become dangerous so chose to give his life so Harrison can have his.
Honestly, I would have been good with just leaving the series as it was originally.
Midnight Mass: Book V: Gospel (2021)
If it wasn't for the monologues
This show is a terrific premise when there isn't a 10 minute monologue by one character or another. Most episodes I find myself spacing out and on my phone because it just gets so boring. Had that been cut out a bit the show would be a solid 8 or 9.
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
Trying to hard
The story is ok. Guess it's based off a series of books. But it's as if they are shoving down the viewers throat that it's the early 90s. Based on the title alone we already know this. But the soundtrack is SUPER heavy handed (I joked with my SO that I was just waiting for Creep to play and Boom! There it is), wardrobe feels like what a gen z-er thinks ppl
In the 90s looked like ( sooo many sun dresses with long sleeve shirts) and the script made sure in 90s slang like Whack which as a teenager in 1994 I don't know anyone that actually used it. You would sound like an idiot. Had to laugh when as they are pouring gas on the ground guess what song was playing?? You got IT... prodigy (firestarter). Lol. Come on Netflix. Do better.
