Shattered City: The Halifax Explosion (2003)
Good movie ruined by too many commercials
Unfortunately like many Canadians I had never heard about this event in school. It wasn't until my 20th year when I visited Halifax for the first time that I learnt of this horrific tale. This movie did an adequate job at telling the story. The acting was competent as was the over-all story (although I thought the German spy thing came across as silly). I particularly liked the acting of the two youngest children of the family that this movie revolves around.
I don't know if it was me or not but there seemed to be a lot more commercial breaks than in regular made for TV movies. As soon as the plot started moving it had to stop for yet another commercial break and being produced by the CBC and funded by corporate sponsors we see the same commercials over and over again which ruined my experience watching the movie.
This is a story that needs to be told and should never be forgotten. It is as devastating as "Sept 11".
The Dollmaker (1984)
Perfection
This is hands down, one of THE best movies/show ever shown on TV. I've only seen it a handful of times but I remember it so vividly. There isn't a single thing wrong with this movie. The acting, the directing, the script, costumes, everything is...well...perfect. Easily the best performance of Jane Fonda's career. I hope to come across it soon on DVD.
Screamers (1995)
Yet another bad Canadian movie.
YAAAWWWWNNNN. This movie is one big bore. What were they thinking when they financed this cinematic snoozefest? Once in a while Canada can make a good movie but when oh when are they going to stop coming up with crap like this. Shameful film making at the most.
City on Fire (1979)
One of the worst movies out there.
Forget that Ed Wood has ever made the worst movie in history....this by far is the WORST. It's bad. Very very bad. Unbelievable that Henry Fonda or Shelly Winters even looked at the script let alone agreed to star in it. Did I mention how dreadful this movie is? I'm Canadian and I'm completely ashamed that this is a Canadian movie.
