Astonishing, Heartbreaking, Affirming & True. Perfect Filmmaking!
17 July 2014
I was a big fan of writer-director Hong Khaou before I saw this wonderfully touching movie. I had loved his award-winning short films SUMMER & SPRING. They were both original and funny and moving. Neither of those works, however, prepared me for the depth and beauty of LILTING. This movie is heartbreaking but it is also truly life affirming. The writing and directing by Hong are stellar. The editing and music are spot on. And the acting is glorious. Ben Whishaw continues to astonish. Legendary actress Pei-pei Cheng gives the performance of her career. She is glorious.

I highly recommend this lovely gem of a film. Bravo to all involved.

Children of God is Outstanding. Stephen Tyrone Williams is a find. Bravo to all involved.
19 May 2011
Originally a wonderful short movie called FLOAT, CHILDREN OF GOD is a moving, thought-provoking, funny and brilliantly poetic love story. Set in the idyllic world of the Bahamas, a blocker painter (Johnny Ferro) searches for inspiration for his painting but instead finds inspiration in the arms of another lost soul (Stephen Tyrone Williams). Director Kareem Mortimer has set this beautiful story in an island paradise. But the characters he has created keep finding ways to keep paradise from coming true for them. The acting in this movie is revelatory. All of he performances are top notch, especially those by Johnny Ferro, Stephen Tyrone Williams and Margaret Laurena Kemp. The camera especially loves the beautiful and sensuous Stephen Tyrone Williams. This movie is a work of art that should be seen by everyone. Bravo to all involved.

Frederic Chane-Son has created a small masterpiece with Les promesses de l'aube!
16 June 2010
I am very, very happy to have just caught this movie last week at the NewFest LGBT Film Festival in New York. Director Frederic Chane-Son has written and directed and beautifully enigmatic and sexy short film.

The audience wonders who the characters are in relation to each other. The avoidance of obviousness is perfect for the pace of the film. The main actors are sexy and easy on the eyes.

Speaking of eyes, this film is directed with much style and artistry.

I look forward to more work from Frederic Chane-Son. He is a true artist! Bravo, Frederic! I can't wait to see what you come up with in the future.

One Bad Cat is a Revelation!
6 October 2009
The visually stunning documentary One Bad Cat really is one bad movie. Meaning, good! This remarkable movie is a detailed and sometimes shocking portrait of the American folk artist Reverend Albert Wagner. In a house in East Cleveland that became a work of art itself, Reverend Albert Wagner created a body of art that is both extraordinary and startling.

Director Thomas G. Miller has brought this one-of-a-kind artist to rich and vivid life. The editing and pace of this movie is just wonderful. You feel as though the artist himself were taking you on a private tour not only of his Art but also the devils and angels who have tormented him and saved him.

This movie is an astonishing work of Art. Bravo, Thomas G. Miller!

Sensuous, Sad, Stimulating & Stunning. Bravo, Stefano Accorsi!
25 September 2008
This delicate, moving and absorbing film continues director Ferzan Ozpetek's growth as a great film artist. His movie STEAM possessed a sweet sensuality that was potent and moving. His movie HIS SECRET LIFE is a sexy little masterpiece. It is moving and funny. And, like I said, very sexy.

With SATURN IN OPPOSITION, Ozpetek teams up again with the gorgeous Italian actor Stefano Accorsi. This actor added sensuality to every scene in HIS SECRET LIFE. Stefano continues to bring his amazing heat to SATURN IN OPPOSITION.

This movie is an ensemble piece in every sense of the word. A group of friends are thrown into turmoil when the most beloved member of their group is struck down in his prime. How the friends and lovers and former lovers survive this tragedy is heartwarming and very moving.

If this movie does not get to you then you have no heart. Period.

Sexy. Sad. True. Perfect.
5 August 2008
This script is perfection. The directing is awesome. The actors are---every single one---sexy. The plot is surprising. The climax is heartbreaking. The depth of these stories is revelatory. The dialogue is witty. The characters are cherishable. The editing is astonishing. In summation, this brilliant film is revealing, true, brutal, funny. Sexy are the actors. Sad is the plot. True is the reflection of these lives in these times. Sexy are the actors. Sad is the story. True is the movie. Perfection is the movie. Bravo to all.

I don't get this minimum of 1,000 words. I loved this movie. I will say it again and again.

And it's sexy.

Hsiao-chuan Chang Should Be A Star!
12 April 2008
In a perfect world actor Hsiao-chuan Chang would be a star. He is the most subtle and sexiest actor I have seen in decades. His face is a knockout---especially his perfect lips. But the innocence he brings to his character is heart stopping.

Eternal Summer is a subtle and sexy Taiwanese movie that is beautifully directed and written by Leste Chen. Every scene and camera shot is perfection.

I found myself going back and watching scenes over and over again---especially, of course, the highly erotic love scene between male actors Bryant Chang and Hsiao-chuan Chang.

Gorgeous. Sexy. Subtle. True.

Bravo.

Sexy & Subtle Gay Cowboy Short Film---Perfect!
10 April 2008
I just saw this wonderful gay short film on LOGO, the gay TV network. At first I wasn't really paying attention. But as the movie progressed I was mesmerized. This is one of the sexiest gay male short films that I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot and made a few myself. The acting is wonderful---especially the very sexy male lead. The directing is right on the money. And the writing is really superb---subtle and surprising. Jean Baptiste Erreca, the director and writer, has quite a career ahead of him. I can't wait to watch this on LOGO again. In fact, I might just go over and watch the LOGO Click List online right now. Bravo all around!!!!!

Jennifer Lewis & Loretta Devine----Thank You, Lord!
28 February 2008
Jennifer Lewis & Loretta Devine---what more could a moviegoer ask for? These two stellar talents wring more humor and pathos out of a line of dialogue than Laurence Olivier in his prime.

This movie is not the greatest story ever told. And it won't be taking home a busload of Oscars. But there are moments of real truth and poignance and compassion here. And the acting---though over the top---is an absolute delight. Rockmond Dunbar is sexy and subtle and moving. The entire cast deserve a huge Bravo.

But the movie belongs to Jennifer Lewis and Loretta Devine. They should be charged with grand larceny, because they steal every scene. I found myself re-winding every scene that Jennifer or Loretta were in because I either laughed so hard or was genuinely moved.

In a perfect world Jennifer Lewis & Loretta Devine would be starring on their own TV dramas or sitcoms or in major Hollywood films, instead of being typecast in the supporting role. But until that more perfect world comes along, this lovely and funny and touching movie will have to do.

Bravo to the writer/director! Brava to Jennifer and Loretta!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt does it again---He's Thrilling in this movie!
9 October 2007
This movie is so ominous that I wanted to fast forward at points. It is chilling and moving at the same time.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt continues his string of astonishing performances which began with Mysterious Skin. He completely disappears into his role here as a young man damaged by a brain injury caused by his own reckless driving. I have a friend who is brain-injured and Joseph is so believable that it is heartbreaking.

All of the performances are nuanced and believable. Jeff Daniels is thrilling as Joseph's blind roommate.

The script of this movie is flawless. You can tell right away that a writer is directing his own work---there is no fluff, no throw away moments.

Every single moment and pause in The Lookout rings absolutely true. Every character is fully-realized. Every choice by a character makes sense, no matter how scary it is. Every plot twist seems earned---all the way through the very moving ending.

I cannot recommend The Lookout highly enough. It is a small masterpiece.

Sexy Gay Coming of Age Story
26 September 2007
I thought I had seen more than enough gay coming of age stories. Some told well, others not so well. It's a genre that is unbeatable: pretty young thing figures out who he or she is.

TAN LINES is a gay coming of age tale but it is amazingly up to date.

This movie is a wonderful surprise---a small gem, really. The photograph on the DVD and the title are actually misleading. The actor on the cover is not the lead, though he is good.

The standout performance in TAN LINES is the by the actor playing the main character. Jack Baxter is absolutely sensational as a smart and mouthy youth coming of age. He is attracted to other boys but also lets himself be distracted by females.

The Australian director of this movie has done a gorgeous job of creating a totally believable world of young slacker/surfers. This screenplay for TAN LINES is smart, funny, sexy, interesting and compelling.

Bravo to all involved, especially Jack Baxter!

Sexy, Sincere & Thought Provoking
28 August 2007
I have been a fan of this writer/director since I saw EATING OUT last year and EATING OUT 2 this year. Both movies are fast-paced, funny and very sexy. I have a feeling that this director is sexy when he's just drinking a cup of coffee.

I'm also a fan of actor Darryl Stephens, of NOAH'S ARC fame on LOGO. Darryl has always been appealing visually but in BOYS CULTURE his acting improves one hundred percent. He is really moving in a pretty underwritten role.

The lead actor, whose name very sadly escapes me, is really riveting as the hustler named only X. He was most moving when he was an asshole. Which was a lot.

The heart of the movie and the find actor=wise is Jonathan Taylor, who plays Joey. He is sexy and funny and flip and very moving. I was a little afraid he was going to attempt suicide at one point. Thank God gay movies have moved beyond that.

There is one miss step in taste for me, when X talks about the look on the face of a statue of the Virgin Mary. The joke was cheap and tasteless and fell flat.

But the movie, like the actors and director, is hot, hot, hot.

Bravo all around!

Brent Gorski Hits A Home Run!
14 July 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I was fortunate enough to catch HOLDING TREVOR today at OUTFEST, the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Film Festival. I think it is really charming. It is beautifully directed, very funny and ultimately very moving. I thought a group of 20-somethings was going to bore me to tears. But the characters are vivid and interesting. The directing and acting are superb.

Brent Gorski, the writer and star, is really a wonderfully talented filmmaker. And he is very, very easy on the eyes. One of the sexiest screen actors I have seen in ages. The camera loves him and so will audiences who catch this delightful movie.

It's funny because now that I think of it no one in the movie really does "hold" Trevor. But I realize the title is a metaphor for Trevor being adrift in life. So, never mind.

BRAVO!!!

Gorgeous Story From Devilish Beginning to Heartbreaking End
11 February 2007
This movie was so much better than I expected. It is a beautifully told story from every aspect---writing, directing and very especially acting. All of the cast is absolutely sensational.

I rented this because James McAvoy is brilliant in The Last King of Scotland. Well, he's brilliant here too! This guy is the real deal.

Like Daniel Craig before him, McAvoy just needs a huge juicy part to become an international superstar. For the moment I'm thrilled just with his acting. Oh, and he looks damn good too. Even in a wheelchair.

Because IMDb will not print a review that is not 10 lines long I am going to keep going on about James McAvoy. Did I mention how good he is? How he is sexy even though only his head moves? I would say that he is one of the sexiest actors working today.

Bravo to all involved.

Heartbreaking, Sexy & True
23 January 2007
This movie joins two of my favorite artists now working in film: director Francois Ozon and actor extraordinaire Melvil Poupaud. This movie is beautifully shot, exquisitely seductive in many parts and finally movingly sad. A true work of art. Ozon is the best thing to happen to movies since Almodovar. And Melvil Poupaud is not only one of the best actors of his generation but he is also sexy beyond belief. Bravo to all involved.

I hope that Ozon will work again with Melvil because the two are exquisite together. It is like watching Almodovar's work with Penelope Cruz or Carmen Maura.

Melvil Poupaud should be an international star any time soon.

Everything I Want From A Movie & More!
22 January 2007
I loved everything about this movie. Everything. I expected it to be like one of those creaky Jack Lemmon "actory" movies from the 70's when I read the rave reviews for Peter O'Toole. This movie is so much more than O'Toole's towering performance. And yes, he is towering. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie about people north of 70 which seemed truthful. I believed every one of these characters. The screenplay is the reason, of course. And the directing. And the acting. The scene in which Peter O'Toole kisses Vanessa Redgrave is the most heartrending scene in movies today. Two of the most gloriously beautiful actors allow themselves to truthfully appear as decrepit and yet lovely human beings. Bravo a thousand times.
