Eight Crazy Nights (2002)
Don't waste the cash
Can you stand 80 minutes of Adam Sandler talking to himself?
It's not about Hannukah at all. It's about a drunken loser, who finally makes good during the holiday season. And it's not for kids under 13. There are several S-bombs that made it past the MPAA censors.
I like Adam Sandler. Loved Big Daddy, Mister Deeds, Waterboy, and Wedding Singer, but this movie is terrible. There are a few laughs that come at the expense of the handicapped (multiple seizures) or from lame poop jokes.
Not worth the money. I wouldn't even rent this piece of crap.
Good Advice (2001)
Surprisingly good
Ever see a movie that was way better than you expected it to be? (For example, "Fools Rush In" with Matthew Perry) Good Advice is one of those movies HBO will probably show over and over, and I'll watch it every time it's on! Ma-Sheen turns in a great performance, as does Jon Lovitz, and Angie Harmon is as gorgeous as ever. A fun movie, any day of the week.
Shichinin no samurai (1954)
Amazing - the Film as artform
Seven Samurai is one of the finest films ever committed to celluloid. Kurosawa created characters, sets, and story with such great depth, that you feel like you're right there in the village. More importantly, the film is one the earliest examples of a martial arts film that equally uses romance and drama to tell the story. It's also got action and comedy. A Brilliant piece of work that should be in everyone's Top 10.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
The swan song for two great characters
"They're like Bill and Ted meet...Cheech and Chong!" If you're a fan of Kevin Smith's work (Clerks, MALLRATS, Chasing Amy, Dogma) you'll absolutely love Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. It's one huge inside joke. If you're not familiar with these characters, you'll still laugh your ass off! Smith's amazing ability to write dialogue is showcased here, along side great cameos from some of the biggest names in showbiz. Don't take it too seriously, and you'll be better for it. Not for children under 17.
