Ghetuputra Komola (2012)
A terrible sacrifice for the sake of a horrible gheto culture
To start off,the movie is based during the british period about 150 years ago. The way they set their stage is top notch, i mean i really felt like i was watching a film which is during the British era,the costume design, the lighting, objects, locations, and the characters were just class! As this movie is based on a true story which happened at that time, actors played their role impeccably. Gheto music is sooo goood, it's super soothing to listen to.
Film is about a gheto boy(basically a teen dancer),who basically entertains a zamindar during the British rule. The movie is extremely sad as you get to see how low can a human go for hunger and money. Everything was great and realistic but maybe it's me because i felt confused at the ending. Ending was predictable but i don't know what their message was actually.
Other than that a great film overall since it's a musical drama,so you'll go through a mixture of emotions. Glad to see the gheto boy culture getting diminished but terrible to have lost a great musical heritage. Worth a watch for sure!
Daruchini Dwip (2007)
Reality is often disappointing, so Dream !
An impressive movie that is still enjoyable today. The cast is amazing, and personally i loved the songs of this movie. I mean the songs were "feel good songs" of Bangladesh and you definitely will catch on with the tune. Every actors and actresses played their part properly with no issues whatsoever. Cinematography is on paar with most other legendary bangla films at that time.
The story is about a group of friends on their vacation to saint martin island(daruchini dwip). The most twisted part was that i thought there would be parts of the time in the island but there was none, while it's entirely based upon on struggles they had to face in the society to prepare themselves for their wonderful journey to daruchini dwip. The upper class and lower class of Bangladeshi families are portrayed with sheer accuracy which kept the movie real.
Watch this movie. You can keep dreaming!
Monpura (2009)
Fate of the lower class presented infront of our EYES
Almost every romantic film has a good ending and like provides zero to none reality. This movie is a romantic tragedy film set in 2009,but i watched this at 02/03/2024,very late but I'm glad i did. Masterpiece of a story and contains a solid message for our society. I just can't express how good the songs are but gonna say one thing, the legendary folk music of Bangladesh is included here. Props to the cinematography as well and chanchal chowdhury(his first film) along with fazlur rahman babu nailed their positions. The film portrays the rural side of bangladesh impeccably in every way possible. Man, i wanna go to monpura...
The plot is about a man named shonai, working as a house assistant of rich family who gets blamed for a murder which was done by the landlord's mentally impaired son. Then he was left stranded on an island named monpura just to take the blame and live far so that the police couldn't catch him. After that you'll get to experience his livelihood and see how badly his fortune shapes up in the end.
Honestly this film needs no explanation and i would prefer someone directly watching it so WATCH THIS MASTERPIECE!
Third Person Singular Number (2009)
Dilemma of relationships and the mental changes of human mind
Movie got released in 2009 and i watched this movie at 2024,clearly my opinion would much differ obviously from the other reviews here. But hear me out, i thoroughly enjoyed watching this film. Songs from this film are a banger still now and their placements were good. The characters had good sense of humour and i got my comedic relief from that which made the film interesting and not boring to watch at times. I gotta say one thing though,i was surprised to see topu act! Other than that casting and acting by the actors were great.
This film tells the story about a girl named ruba who faces enormous tough challenges after her live-in boyfriend gets arrested for crime. Also how long distance relationships always has a problem and consequences that needs to addressed later.
Highly recommend watching this amazing art of film by mostafa sarwar farooqi and for sure i can say that you won't be disappointed!
Mad_e in Bangladesh (2007)
Mostafa sarwar farooqi, made in Bangladesh 👏👏
I feel like this movie is a direct call to corrupted governance of Bangladesh starting from the clerks to the DC officers. Farooqi managed to get all of the top tier actors and actresses of Bangladesh at that generation and they provided their class. Zahid hasan was fabulous and my god his expressions were a chef's kiss, specially the way his facial changes are seen immediately from an angered psychopath to smiling angel sometimes in the movie.
Story is linear and it is about a deranged guy who comes to dhaka from ratanpur just to find a job as he graduated recently. Getting hurdles along the way he shifts his personality to overcome what he thinks is corrupted. Little bit of problem were there in the story and the character could've been more developed in the run which was missing.
Overall,i still would suggest every "Bangladeshi" to watch this once in his/her lifetime.
Oggatonama (2016)
Here's your religion: humanism
A great message was shown at the end of the movie and shows how the poor have always the greater heart among us. The movie was so real and the casting: oh my god, phenomenal. Specially fazlur rahman babu(he's the man) and shahiduzzaman selim are impeccable.
The story is about a unnamed dead body that got exchanged with another expatriates name arriving in Bangladesh who died working in the middle east as there used to be a lot of human trafficking back then. The movie captures every detail of judicial system of bangladesh along with every human mind related to working with that dead body.
Left me speechless and emotional for a while after I've finished it
Watch it!
Hawa (2022)
Not worth the hype, worth a try!
The hype hawa movie created was insane. People were rushing to the halls and filling up seats just to see this "masterpiece" when this was released. Cutting to the chase here, the plot or the story doesn't quite add up to the craze it generated among the people. I gave this a 7 just because of the acting of the amazing cast and everything was so raw. Like i felt like i was really watching a tale of the boatmen who actually go through all that.
Props to the cinematography(thanks to SA Kamrul Hasan Khasru),where it sets the benchmark for all other bangla films now.
I just would like to say do watch this even if it might bore you at times.
Araal (2022)
Give it a shot, please
It's a natok basically with a runtime rounding up around 40 mins. I had very low expectations but the plot or story is staggeringly amazing for a drama or natok of 40 minute runtime. Also,it really shows pritom hasan in a diverse role which justifies the fact that he really is a great actor considering that he's also one of the renowned music artist of our country.
The story is about a local muezzin who finds a dead body of a whore randomly in his house out of the blue moon. The story builds up in a great shape and actually can confuse the audience so generate more curiosity towards the end. Lastly, the ending is perfect and hard to predict which completes this short drama impeccably!
