Ad Astra (2019)
fantastic slow burner of a movie
I had honestly not heard much about this movie before so I was pleasantly surprised when I watched it recently. It looks beautiful (especially so in 4K), the acting is top notch and you get a "realistic" near future space adventure which includes what might be some of the most realistic depictions of what combat in low or zero gravity might be like. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole movie but don't expect a fast paced action adventure movie in space, this is much more 2001 A Space Odyssey than Star Wars. One of the best movies I have seen this year (2021) and definitely recommended.
The Brink (2020)
solid post apocalyptic British low budget movie
Although obviously a low budget movie and fairly long (at just over 2 hours) this was quite entertaining all the way through.
As a fan of post apocalyptic movies I rate this a solid 6 out of 10. Good but could have been better. Still worth a watch if you enjoy post apocalyptic scenarios in your movies.
Lake Michigan Monster (2018)
Monty Python's Call of Cthulhu
This is one of those movies you will either love or hate. It is obviously an indie low budget film and it does not try to pretend otherwise. If you like the old Monty Python silliness and you like recent shows like Danger 5 you will love this movie. Think of it as a Call of Cthulhu done by Monty Python and you will know what to expect.
Thunder Force (2021)
UNFUNNIEST COMEDY THIS YEAR
Melissa McCarthy can be very funny but this has been the unfunniest movie I have seen so far this year. I literally laughed twice in the whole movie. Maybe preteens might enjoy it but very little fare for adults here, not enough super hero action and almost zero comedy content. Quite disappointing. Would not recommend.
