The Man Who Skied Down Everest (1975)
A beautiful film to ruffle feathers
Why My title?
Is this anymore or less 'pretentious' than modern day 'influences raving on about some holiday locations?
Or other Everest climbers, lots died there only because it's there so don't pile your judgement on this guy because 6 died so he can ski down if.
Btw. I loved every moment of this film. To say he waffles on and on is racist because he is viewing at as a Japanese with Japanese thinking. I like this Japanese thinking in this.
And he did not die not long after this either.
A remarkable film and effort that puts modem 'expeditions' to shame as these days it's not a long trek from an airport.
This guy and his team trekked from Kathmandu!
The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1968)
RIP Mr Alan Arkin
I came here after the recent passing of Alan Arkin to pay my respects to this 'The heart is a lonely hunter'
Although he has had many fine performances, this to me is his finest ever.
I only had seen this once many years ago and yet it stays with me since.
It was the titel that got me to watch it. The heart is a lonely hunter is one of those films that is the magic of story telling and film making, everyone from the tea lady to the director and everyone in front of the camera should be proud to take part in that magic.
I didn't just watch it, I experienced it.
It drew me into Singers world like a silent witness,
That time I experienced magic and it touched my heart.
RIP Mr Alan Arkin, you earned it.
The Love Letters from Teralba Road (1977)
I used to live in Teralba Rd
The other reviewer asks where is Teralba Rd.
I know it.
Lived there for a few years and talk was our place was a drug house according to a neighbour.
Anyway.
I was talking to a housemate last night and it was one of her relatives who wrote these love letters and here I am now.
I still live in Newcastle.
Hachi: A Dog's Tale (2009)
Extremely touching
I can't add anything new to what the other reviewers have said.
What got my tears really flowing was near the end when the Widow seen the Dog at the train station.
A truly touching film.
Thunder Force (2021)
Blah
Oh Jason, how can you be seen in this this whatever it is.
At least bad films like Robot Monster, Plan 9 from outer space and any Ed Wood films are bad funny but this blah Blah blah bla......sorry my brain died.
Five Easy Pieces (1970)
Why!
I can't add more than what has been reviewed by 234 others here.
I will ask Why? And Why!
This film is great because there is no Why?/! Robert turned his back on his past life full of promise.
We could imagine a host of possibilities on Why.
Did a girl broke his heart when in his youth and he gave up on life and just become an angry young man angry at the world just drifting from one job to the other?
Was there some altercation between Robert and his Father?
We can only guess and there are lots here who have given great praise to this film who can understand why Robert did what he did although wont do that themselves.
There was a time l had great disappointment with the world and why bother so can understand to some degree Roberts actions.
The ending was sadness seeing his ever loyal girlfriend walking around trying to find him while the truck he was in was vanishing into the winter mist.
