Sleeping with Other People (2015)
Rom-Com with a twist
I've seen my fair share of predictable, boring Rom-Coms, and this one is definitely different. The two main characters and actors are irresistible. The tension is immaculate, the build up is amazing. The movie stays fresh while being hilariously raunchy, and still maintains the classic tear-jerking happily ever after.
The Virgin Suicides (1999)
Beautiful
The Virgin Suicides beautifully intertwines topics of gore and of beauty. The aesthetic of the film alongside its heavy topics work to portray the stories of the sisters. The film is a time capsule to the culture of the period, including the stigma surrounding mental health. There is complex commentary throughout the film on this, but I think the fact that it is so beautiful to watch is what makes it so enticing.
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (2021)
Heartfelt and Warm, but Slow
I went into watching this film with the expectation that it was a normal teen romance, which was definitely not true! The movie is more centered around the idea of the time anomaly.
I like the warm mood of the film, but I think it oftentimes felt like it was going on forever. The actors have okay chemistry, but it does seem predictable.
