Battle of the Sexes (2017)
It certainly wasn't Love-All, but lots of (lip) service-points made.
I fell for Emma Stone playing this character but not for the character the role was based upon.
Who was doing the using and disgarding wasn't portrayed.
Nor were 4 subject and object roles identified. Who used who.
The brash pig was the only honest character, probably the most innocent and certainly the most vulnerable. Living through it in real life, I felt for the lost sole Marilyn, facing nothingness and clinging on to the past.
The usual PC virtual signaling and oppression points got their boxes ticked and lipservice paid... It is American filmmaking after all.
But as a fairytale it was pleasantly photographed.
Where it failed for me was it's feeling of clumsy trite falseness that clashed with the quality of the 4 lead roles. The main characters just too skin-deep.
It could have been great if there had been some honesty and less sugarcoating.
But I did fall for Emma in her big glasses and dentures.
Terminus (1961)
Coffee table magazine type mocumentary
Great incidental music. Kind of soulful jazz.
Random shots from a day in the life of a London train terminal around 1960.
I definitely spotted Leo Mckern at a ticket window. From the ticket vendor's view.
Leo Mckern didn't feature in the credits and Terminus doesn't feature in his imdb entry. But he's definitely there. Maybe just travelling?
