The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
It's just not that good
The best episodes of the first season are the two episodes that are basically Mandalorian Season 3 episode 1 and 2.
The rest of the show is pretty boring. And Boba Fett has become...a..,.good....guy? WTF?
Brazen (2022)
Raisin
Like a grape that isn't good anymore. Acting, terrible. Story, boring. I commented to my wife that for movie based on her solving her sisters murder, it took much too long for her to actually get dead. I mean, the point is solving the mystery, right? I'm writing this review halfway through, because I'm confident this is not going to turn around.
10.0 Earthquake (2014)
When Mr Rooney is top billed cast....
...you know what you gonna get.
I had a quesadilla, fondue, and crab Rangoon as snacks while I watched this, and the movie was still the cheesiest part of the night.
Trauma Center (2019)
Only ten minutes in...
...but I can already tell you this movie is cheesier than a mozzarella stick. The acting, by all with the exception of the female lead, is atrocious. Bruce Willis is pitched as lead in the movie but you get him at like 7% potency.
And why in God's name is this movie set in San Juan and everybody is more cracker than a Saltine? OMG you have Madison, Steve, Amber, Pierce.... Even the extras don't look like the people of San Juan.
My wife turned it off because I kept laughing at the stupid lines and stupid acting.
Take Shelter (2011)
Sooooo boring!
Descent into madness? Maybe. Premonition? Who cares? Holy smokes this movie was boring. And the end! Ugh, I read enough of reviews without spoiling it to hope for a good end, but no. I guess maybe I'm just a dumb grunt that doesn't get high brow movie making. 2 hrs of a guy having bad dreams and not being focused. And the end is two waterspouts. Wtf?
The Lie (2018)
Dumb
From the very first decision point, the characters start making idiotic decisions and you ask yourself "how could you possibly think this was going to turn into anything but ruin?" You need to cut your losses. And the whole premise of the daughter doing what she did to her parents so that someone else could benefit in such an insignificant way. Christ the stupidity. The actors do a good job with this too... but the story is just so full of unbelievably dumb choices it goes beyond what is believable, even for a movie.
Mulan (2020)
It's not a musical
I don't understand why people give this 1-4 stars. Yeah, it's not winning any awards for greatest of all time, but the way people thrash this I think they must expect every single thing to completely knock their socks off. If it was not a 10 then it's garbage. Tough customers.
Visually, this movie is gorgeous. There could be more character development, yes, but the core of the story is there, and you have to appreciate it for what it is. A retelling.
The Big Sick (2017)
Heartfelt and charming flick
Some good edgy humor, but mostly a great movie about why you should take care of number 1 and follow your heart/dreams, no matter what others think you should do. And based on a true story!
Monsters: Dark Continent (2014)
Coulda, shoulda, woulda
This could have been a good war movie. Better plot, better character development, no monsters. It just lacked so much direction. I wanted to like it, and the acting of the main characters and the gritty action scenes say I should have, but there was so many other problems I just had too many distractions to what might have been good
The Frozen Ground (2013)
Pretty Good Story
This started a little slow. I was wondering if I missed something. Overall though, held my attention through the whole thing.
Vanessa Hudgens does really great as Cyndi. You really feel for her. Nick Cage surprised because he's been in so much cheesy stuff and just bad performances after 2005, but he is also very good as the state trooper. I though Cusacks performance was flat. Like, coulda got anyone.
The film noir quality and the cold Alaska nights and darkness give the entire movie a sense of dread. Nothing is really sensationalized. It's just a story of good old fashioned cop work and chasing down all leads to catch a dirtbag preying on women on the fringes of society. I recommend.
Anderson Falls (2020)
Just. No.
I thought that low point was when Jeff screams "I hate you" at all the victims' pictures, tears down pictures and throws bulletin boards around, and then tells his captain that "he thought like them" and developed a list of women he'd kill next if he was them. She naturally refuses to provide the manpower to find this asinine crusade, at which point he basically just GUESSES with one woman from the list, and the killers happen to show up. Like I said, I THOUGHT that would be the low point, but then now that they have shown up, he busts in on them and has them DEAD TO RIGHTS with his gun on the killer with the gun. He's been after these guys for months, they KILLED HIS WIFE, and now they are over another woman in her tub, drugged, already slit her wrists. Two bullets, over. Instead, they somehow make our idiot hero believe he can "still save her" by turning his gun over to them. At which point they go on to kidnap his son after killing two more cops.
Oh, and all that other stuff about just taking guns from people that others said. The action was stupid, but the plot was unforgivable.
