Lynchian fest for Cinemaphiles
13 January 2024
This is a very Lynchian take on a movie I saw a few years ago. I think it was called The cook, the lover and something and starred Helen Mirren. Where the protagonist was Helen and the story revolved around her mob boss husband and her secret lover It pretty much starts the same then goes into a different direction. The plot is interesting albiet dwindling with multiple twists ans turns at every step. Lots of elements to love. Very different, very random at times. A literal feast for the senses baffling the mind. If you are looking for a psychological thriller this is it. For me, I saw Manoj Bajpayee and clicked. He is fantastic in this. You can see a few moments where he has gone to places that I've never seen him go before. Abhishek Dubey has created something amusing and very Lynchian in this. Thanks to Netflix we are able to see something fantastic after years.

Nothing against the actors but this is ridiculous
8 December 2023
I'm sorry what? If they wanted an Indian adaptation they could've done a simple believable story. It started with a such a ridiculous self effacing colonialism loving bootlicking concept. Its so tone deaf they have no idea people are reclaiming their lands, their origins and a story which makes half Indians half colonizers look superior and unique, is not going to fly well with the audiences. This is neither for Indians, nor NRIs nor the International audience who will be absolutely clueless because they have been brought up on slumdog Millionaire and will consider this a wannabe project. It makes its proximity to whiteness as a USP and is a leap ahead of something Karan Johar would make. Again self effacing as can be. I have to say I like Suhana Khan's debut a lot. Nothing against her she looks like a beautiful humble girl, a really promising actress and really believable for this role. I think she is meant for much grittier cinema. I am so excited for her future she has her dad's easy charisma and relatability but this show is not it. Wish her the best and would love to see more of her in future.

Sukhee is every Indian woman
19 November 2023
What a beautiful rendition of an Indian woman, a housewife, a wife, a mother. Shilpa shetty has done justice to her character and has played Sukhee beautifully. A young famous, rich, good looking woman who gave her life away for supporting her husband, her daughter and her family. A portrait of every Indian woman, expected to fit within a mould, give up everything in an instant, give up her dreams, ideas, family to embrace her husband his family, his ideas and take a backseat to his expectations is something that men take for granted in India. What a poignant portrayal of a complicated and beautiful concept. Shilpa has done a great job but people would flock to see Tiger or Jawaan over Shilpa's work which is much more honest, down to earth, beautiful and heart touching. There is such a sense of beauty, Nostalgia and a lesson about love, marriages and misogyny in India. What a beautiful movie!

This is not a movie its a short story
28 July 2023
I expected an engaging story, a movie with a congruent plot and at least a thriller looking at such high ratings but I was met with a horror trailer, you tube short storyesque thingie with an incoherent plot, random horror scenes, good camera work but confused attempt at film making. Its alright to watch this at home I guess but spending money on it and actually watching it in a theatre is not the best idea. This lacks a story. I mean there is something akin to a story here but it goes nowhere. It starts with wasting 15 minutes in the beginning where you expect to be introduced to the characters but instead of that there's random snippets of interaction from people's lives and ends the same way. I would say skip it.

Sad Culmination to the beloved Franchisee
30 June 2023
Absolutely disappointed by this movie. All the actors have done their job well but the script was lacking so much that the whole movie became a torture to endure. So much so that we had to leave the theatre half way. Carry on Jatta 1 is one of my favorite films and I have seen almost all globally acclaimed movies till date, being a cinephile, that's a big accomplishment for a Punjabi movie but this 3rd movie in the franchisee fails miserably. The actors are underutilized, the script is lacking, the dialogues are tone deaf and cringey. They just wanted to elicit cheap laughter. In the era of political correctness jokes on serious matters such as r@pe and self harm will not land well. I cringed very hard at certain dialogues and points in the movie. They have tried to recreate the confusion and ensuing hilarity shown in the first part but I don't think they've succeeded. The editing is also weird, songs are forced and do not have any rhyme or rythm and become difficult to endure. Overall it was a tough watch and I would not recommend to watch this. I would say this is one of the worst movies I've seen in 2023.

A Solid 8
18 January 2023
Funny little horror comedy with a believable plot and underlying comedy and tragedy at the same time. It doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and succeeds in entertaining and keeping your attention. It's also emotional at certain times in the movie while presenting a case against use of AI and its entanglement into our lives as we know it. I liked the movie and found the acting, characters and editing to be well paced and believable. Ronny Cheng looked out of it in the beginning but by the middle he looked in his element and managed to tickle the audience. It was all in all a good entertainer to watch with friends or family. I am not sure if it's a kid friendly movie. Might give kids nightmares but if you want to make a case against using technology a bit too much you can take your kids along.

6.5 Old timey feel to this
30 September 2022
The screenplay is not as tight as you'd expect. Actors are great. Ramey Malik and Denzel Washington are solid actors. Dollar store Jared Leto is a bit irritating. It reminds you of old timey movies. Slow burn, great camera work but a lot of scenes feel like filler scenes to just pass the time. They are well shot don't get me wrong but after the first half it kind of drags on. I'd say watch it. Its so solid movie. Direction and screenplay are decent and so are the actors but the story is like two pages long and they had to make a whole movie of it that's why it feels a bit dragged. Still recommend watching it. Has a true detective vibe to it.

Powerful comeback
12 September 2022
I am not a fan of bollywood and wasn't expecting much from it but we should appreciate when things are done right. This is a right. It can be a massive hit globally and it makes me proud as a Non resident Indian I felt proud watching this movie in theatres outside India and it deserves global viewership. Its a powerful comeback and definitely quality work.

Only criticism I have is that it is a bit too overwhelming for the senses and there shouldve been some down time as well. It was too full on all the time. Its a bit of an overkill and sensitive people can gind themselves being overwhelmed. Other than that I have no criticism. It is a well acted well edited movie.

Made from a man's perspective
29 August 2022
A story needs to be neutral. Even though they tried and I really appreciate that effort but still it comes across as misogynistic and told through the male perspective. Both main characters were flawed but they presented Rajesh Khanna as the good guy and Tina as an out of control 'bad' woman. I still enjoyed the movie. Its well made and editing is pretty good. Padmini's character has been shown as righteous but she is trying to get the attention of a married man and interfering in his emotional life with his wife. Still she has been presented as a positive character which she is not. Tina's character has its flaws and had them even when they were dating but Rajesh had a problem with those things later and ignored the red flags earlier. Movie is still well made and well paced. Songs are introduced as naturally as possible so overall its a good movie. Another thing I have problem with is the casteism shown. The problem I have is that rich people living in Mauritius barely know which caste anyone is to treat them this way. Seems like caste thing has been forced into this to make you feel bad and hate Tina's character more and have sympathy for Padmini. I don't find it plausible and seems like a justification for the affair.

Awful movie bad acting and direction
16 August 2022
Thats it. I think the title describes it. Movie is pretty awful and childish. Scenes are disconnected and emotions are all over the place. The main female lead is insufferable. In the beginning I liked her cheer and bubbliness but as time went on and more serious events transpired she was still going on the same way and it was so unsuitable to the movie. Its okay if you have nothing to do. Its a calm watch that's the one thing about it. Its very soft and paced in a way that is not overwhelming. Also the male lead is good. Everything else is kind of made up like a robotic movie for masses' consumption given that most people do not have good taste or can't pick out the ridiculousness of such movies.

Brilliant watch! Ignore poor reviews just watch it
10 August 2022
I am very critical of movies and plot holes. This has literally next to none flaws. Very tight plot, very intriguing, amazing performances. Reminds me of Polanski or Hitchcock. Its a very well made movie and I was taken by a surprise by how good it was. Wouldve given it a 9 but seeing the abysmal reviews for this movie and such high reviews for movies like X and Black phone that are literally trash, I was motivated to give it a 10 just by comparison and relative performance.

Promising start turns weird quick
7 August 2022
Great casting but story is so irrational its hard to digest. The female lead character is so irrational. I thought they would show her as a Borderline Personality or shine light on mental disorders but it wasn't so. It was a really irrational storyline. The actors did their best with what they had. I wouldn't recommend watching as the story is frustrating and devoid of logic.

Enjoyed it very much
3 August 2022
Enjoyed this movie very much. Could relate to it more than I wish to admit. I have been in 90% situations depicted in the movie so I have to say I loved it. Also appreciate Karan Johars sober approach toward NRIs. Its no longer living in mansions and unrealistic stuff of the 90s but reality of living abroad and having these issues. Good movie! Good screenplay and direction. Missed good music otherwise would've given it a 10.

Pretty Good
1 August 2022
It was a pretty good movie masked as a horror movie but actually talked about perpetuation on abuse among families through mothers uts especially going to be a difficult watch for women who have had strained relationships with their mothers. I absolutely loved it except for the fact that Prime forgot to dub or subtitle the Korean parts of the movie which is atleast 30-40% of it! If you take away this Amazon Prime issue then it was a beautiful movie.

Important Issue but shown lightly
1 August 2022
This is a very important social issue in India and has to be worked on. Good that they made a movie to highlight it. Problem is that they are showing Haryana and Punjab as safe Haven and Rajasthan and Gujarat as kind of bad states when its actually the opposite. Haryana and Punjab rank at no 1 and 2 in female foetcide. Theyve also shown a hindu angle again here to portray hindus as superstitious good for nothing breed again the same propaganda. That and the levity with which they have approached the topic is painful to watch. Again very important issue but should have been more respectful and factual.

Much Ado about nothing
28 July 2022
1. Gulshan Devaiah sleepwalks through the whole thing. Maybe he wasn't convinced in the spirit and was sending us a secret message through his bored eyes.

2. Absolutely no plot whatsoever.

3. Regurgitation of 100s of Western cop dramas.

4. Literally the most uni dimensional unimpressive plot.

Save yourself some time and don't watch it.

Solid Horror Thriller
19 July 2022
Its an eerie dark haunting movie almost perfect in its execution. There is a foreboding and dark despairing atmosphere that this starts with and continues till the end. In a way there is an interactive element to it. Hope they make more interactive horror thrillers in the future. My only quip is that this movie did not go as far and wide with its story as it could. It was engaging though not as shocking as anticipating. I predicted the twist at the end but still it wasn't a big enough reveal. Other than that, perfect execution and acting. I'd give it an 8 but gave a 9 to balance out crappy movies like the black phone getting such high ratings when gems like this exist.

Strong and honest
19 July 2022
Refreshing to see a balanced movie in the age of propaganda movies. This movie presents both sides of the coin and stands tall and firm in truth. Respect to the creators, strong script, good screenplay and great performances all around.

Below Average
18 July 2022
It presents itself as unique, interesting, intriguing and it is actually none of the above. Its a concept done to death, someone's kidnapped, they plan and attempt their escape. Only thing that's different about it is that they're a kid not a woman( usual). I didn't find it worth the high rating its been given. I am suspicious if they are even honest because in what world is this anything above 5 or a 6?

Propaganda
7 July 2022
Expected a heart touching beautiful movie but turned out to be propaganda again. Seems like globalists trying to break India are paying bollywood very well again and they seem the be putting that money to good use for creating un rest and more hate. The lessons we need to learn are to respect everyone equally and do better! Agreed but no country in the world continues to peddle hate and propaganda to this degree as does bollywood. It leada one to think who are their pay masters to encourage this? Food for thought. Answer- same globalists who are funding wars and disasters all over the world.

Decent movie but Alia is a poor choice
1 May 2022
This is a decent story and a good attempt at a biopic but Alia doesn't suit the casting. She gave her 100% but 5 minutes of screen time of Vijay Raaz and Ajay Devgan was so powerful compared to Alia that it makes you realise the difference between a commercial heroine and a powerful actor. Alia is a wonderful commercial actress but she is not powerful an actress to be able to convey a biopic and make the audience invest their time and energy for 2 hours plus of screen time.

Anti hindu Propaganda
3 April 2022
I found nothing but anti hindu propaganda in this to the max. They've shown exaggerated negativity especially among hindu community. Hindus are shown as hypocritical, greedy, power hungry, hateful mobsters. Shame on the creators. Such repulsive propaganda. No script no logic just hindus committing atrocities on others. Its such ugliness. Hard to seee but this used to be the norm few years ago.

Funny but still pushing one side of the narrative
28 December 2021
I was watching this hoping for them to make fun of both sides which they did to some extent but then again started adding handfuls of propaganda for seasoning. I am here for it but wish they had brought out the ridiculousness of both sides not just been presenting one side as irrational and the other as wise and progressive which its not and this comes from someone who is removed from the politics of this region and is a neutral observer.

Copy of Curb your Enthusiasm but still good
21 December 2021
R Madhavan is pulling a Larry David. Its great though no problem with that. I'd say its an Indian version of the Curb with a focus on married life.

Some parts are genuinely funny and relatable so overall I do not feel so bad about it being a copy.

Surveen and R. Madhavan are both doing a great job. Lovely acting and refreshing script.

Wow what a thriller!
11 December 2021
Keeps you on the edge constantly. Very very taut thriller. People who have given it a low rating should go and watch Selmun boi movies cuz that's all they can understand. This is a real good movie just requires you to have a working brain and if you understand it you get a story you will possibly never forget.
