Psycho Goreman (2020)
Great fun and crazy ride.
Sitting at the absolute nexus of comedy and horror with dashes of Sci-Fi is Psycho Goreman. I think many reviewers just don't get it. That's sad because this is so much fun and yes quite gory at times too. Never takes itself too seriously and neither should you. I will admit the second half cant quite match the first and i knock 2 stars off for that.
TLDR: A delectable comedy horror treat.
Eddie and the Cruisers (1983)
Eddie rocks!
I love this film What do you want - Drama? Mystery? Rock and Roll? Its got it all in spades. Surely Pare's greatest moment. He is really believable as Eddie Wilson. Awesome songs that sound fresh even today. The second Eddie and the Cruisers film is also great and its worth watching them both back to back and having a Cruisers festival!
TLDR: Eddie Lives! and always will...
Noise in the Middle (2020)
It could have been more
I really enjoyed the premise of this film and it had a lot of potential. I take nothing away from all the actors who put in solid performances especially the young girl playing an autistic child. But while it had a sold start and middle it really fell away in the last 3rd and the ending was trash stuffing what should have been a great film and had me shaking my head and regretting my time watching it.
TLDR: The noise here is at the end of the film. Avoid.
The Droving (2020)
Such scenery!
I love movies about ancient traditions and how they survive in the modern age. This is a good movie, good story and well told but surely the star of the film is the spectacular scenery.
TLDR: Not quite the Wicker Man.
Horizon Line (2020)
Not the greatest thriller but its ok.
Pilots and skydivers, please just avoid - unless you have a great sense of humour in which you can view the movie as a comedy as possibly get quite a few laughs.
For everyone else its a passable action thriller. Just.
TLDR: Try not to think too much about what you are seeing. Just go with the flow and enjoy.
Synchronic (2019)
Good Sci Fi
A good Sci Fi movie with a modern twist on time travel. And who doesn't want to see a good time travel movie!
TLDR: Enjoyable. Recommended Sci Fi.
Nina of the Woods (2020)
Pulling teeth
At the time of writing this review, the overall score is a solid 3 and I think that is a fair assessment. Its basically a story looking for an ending. A long road to nowheresville.
TLDR: Avoid. You can do better with your time.
The Italian Job (2003)
See it for the action
A great action movie but not overall a great movie in and of itself as it's poorly letdown by a typically woeful wooden performance from Mark Wahlberg.
Lacks all of the charm that made the original great.
TLDR: Fast forward between actions scenes and it's tolerable.
Young Winston (1972)
Wonderful
Great movie. Really loved the way it was told through all the different voices.
Well cast with Simon Ward who you can imagine as the actual young Winston. But a fantastic performance from Robert Shaw steals the show.
TLDR: A truly splendid Boy's Own adventure!
Ben-Hur (1959)
The greatest ever.
Simply put, the greatest story ever to appear on the silver screen.
Nothing can compare to the timeless story, the acting, the visuals, the grandeur.
I couldn't even say how many times I watched it. I was lucky enough to see it as a child on the big screen. It stunned me then and it still stuns me now.
TLDR: Greatest film of all time!
