Bill Kills and Slays It
12 May 2024
I enjoyed every single minute of 'Boy Kills World' and Bill Skarsgard's very committed role.

It's pure joy and movie escapism in the best possible sense, but I can understand why it's not for everyone.

I went in thinking that it has a predictable story, and even though some parts are, the energy with which this is fueled and a few original aspects considerably make up for that.

Sure it does have a few pacing issues throughout too, however not bad enough to bother me or ruin the overall experience.

Loved the humor which landed better than in 'The Fall Guy' in my opinion, the fight scenes were well done (thanks for not using shaky cam!), but what really surprised me was the brother-sister dynamic which gave a lot of heart to the story.

Another highlight for me was not only B. Skargard's intense body workout preparation for the fighting scenes, but also the way every bit of his body language landed for every scene with his internal voice while interacting with the other characters which is a testament to Bill's amazing acting skills.

I also appreciated his way of bringing a gentleness to the character, a sense of wonder and imagination, because 'Boy' still had the mind of a kid in the body of and adult (hence the name "Boy").

The rest of the cast did a pretty decent job as well, most notably I enjoyed Brett Gelman's 'Gideon' the most.

One particular original and funny aspect I loved was 'Boy' trying to lip read the characters and not always succeeding. 😆

Honestly, this was a great directorial debut for Moritz Mohr. I can only imagine what he could have done with more budget.

I wish more people could enjoy this gem and I think a lot of reviews are judging this one too harshly.

This undoubtedly will be added to my favorite movies of 2024 list and I will see it in a theatre at least once more.

"Go team" 😄

Side note: I didn't find his internal voice overused and annoying which I feared it would be. It actually made a lot of sense to the story and worked. And the film was not as gory as I imagined.

great performances offered by Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger

I really think that it's a great movie!! I like the fact that it's not only a war movie,it contains a bit of comedy and romance also!!The plot is very inspiring...it goes straight to you're heart! Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger's performances are better than excellent!I also want to add that it's special and different from other war movies! The cruelty shown makes viewers understand better those times!!!!Trust me ,when you'll see it you'll love it no matter what kind of movies you like!!!My God..THE PATRIOT!!!!why did I like the movie?Well, firstly because it makes you almost feel like you are living the history all over again and you suffer along with the characters in that very moment ,even if you are an American or not!and feel as if your own family is being threatened...
