South Park: South Park: The Streaming Wars (2022)
South Park IS BACK!!!!!!
South Park is finally back after a short 6 episode season 25, I'm not going to say anything so watch it yourself. South Park has ALWAYS been a satire, even season 1 had some satirical episodes.
South Park: City People (2022)
Great episode!!!!!
I truly don't get all the hate for 'City People', it's a smart, funny, well written, and intresting episode. If you like Tsst or The City Part of Town give this one a watch.
South Park: Pajama Day (2022)
A great return to the episodic format
It's became obvious lately that South Park is running out of ideas, and making more episodes with not so subtle commentary.
But I can't say the same about 'pajama day'. The metaphors were brilliant, most of the jokes were spot on, and the musical numbers were catchy.
I highly recommend you watch this episode in contrast to the bleak episodes of season 23.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Don't Look Up
I have no idea what to rate this. I came out pleasantly surprised, but that's because I was expecting to hate it and ended up not hating everything I've ever loved.
It's very ham-fisted. And probably unrealistic.
But our world's so screwed up and our politicians so dramatic that a world as utterly insane as this may be possible. Also most climate scientists have viewed the movie as realistic.
But the editing is atrocious. Everything feels disjointed and random. You have no idea when any scene begins, ends, or begins to be cross-cut with another.
But maybe that's the point. To show the chaos and unrest in the fictional world and our own climate. (Except the editing mistake at the end, that was inexcusable.)
The writing, satire, and editing is really what makes me so conflicted. I've decided my thoughts on most other parts. I thought the acting was phenomenal. The particular standouts for me were Leo DiCaprio (who, even with his somewhat uninteresting character, captured the fear of someone in his position dealing with a threat of that scale), Timothée Chamalet, Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, and a small but hilarious role from Ron Perlman. However, I personally quite liked all of the actors. (Except for Mark Rylance. I think he did a good job, but he's just playing his character from Ready Player One and I don't want to think about that movie.) I also thought that while most characters didn't stand out, Timothée Chamalet's role as the religious shoplifter was an absolute standout. (Maybe because he was the only character with any depth?) The last few minutes of the movie (with the exception of the previously mentioned editing mistake) were phenomenal, with incredible CGI, an actual purpose for the jumpy editing, and an admittedly hilarious post-credits scene. Yeah, speaking of which, for a comedy, this movie was really not that funny? I also think you could have cut, like, at least 30 minutes from the movie without changing anything (mostly that weird plot where Leo cheats on his wife with Cate Blanchett?).
But man, I'm divided on this. I'll let it sit for a little while and (hopefully eventually) decide.
Encanto (2021)
Another Awful Disney Movie
I'll make this review spoiler free in case you want to watch this garbage.......
Encanto is the newest animated Disney movie, it settles around Mirabel who lives in a magic house where everyone has magical powers except her. There are plenty of songs in this movie, which are written by the guy that wrote Hamilton (Lin Manuel Miranda). The songs are written great but the singers can't hold them up.
The writers put too much of the typical Disney style humor into this movie, it seemed like every minute there was a joke that didn't land. The last thirty minutes of this movie made no sense and was very forced.
In short don't watch this garbage, instead watch Pixar's soul.
South Park: Cartman Finds Love (2012)
One of the best episodes of South Park
I was laughing from start to finish, the plots were great too.
