Ogoniok-ognivo (2020)
Gorgeous Film
Absolutely stunning animation. The artstyle is unique & surreal. Very beautiful.
Sherni (2021)
Perfect
It was flawless, another masterpiece from the Newton director. Went into it blind & my expectations skyrocketed just reading the cast in the opening credits. Did not disappoint. Sat through the entire end titles in silence. A gorgeous film.
The Basement (2018)
It's good, watch it
I'll be honest it's probably not a ten starrer. But the reviews are so severely misleading (snobbish herd mentality nonsense) that I am inclined to add as much weight as I can to the other side.
It's a decent film, some of the shots are very impressive, the score is great, the colouring is great, the ending is questionable but they certainly took no prisoners with it. Cayleb Long is getting a lot of flak for his acting & even I was sceptical at the beginning, but by the end he had me legitimately rooting for his character. I felt for the guy, no $hit.
The violence is a matter of preference, obviously, but why would you watch a psycho killer horror movie if you can't stomach it. I mean, you know that going in, if you have a problem with it, that's on you.
I was invested, & I thoroughly enjoyed it, though I wish it'd ended differently. It was bloody, it was gritty, it was surprisingly funny. There's nothing wrong with it that you cant laugh away, which is never a loss, & it's a little indulgent with the tragic backstories, but it's a good film. Great find.
Supernatural: Carry On (2020)
Subverts any & all expectations
I loved it, it was fantastic. Very funny. Not the episode itself, obviously (in itself the episode does not evoke an emotional response of any kind (except maybe cringe, but I'm not sure if that's an emotion)) but more in the sense of the grand scheme of things. It's a behemoth of a joke & is really only as funny & interesting as it is because of the audience contributing to it.
Kinda like the entirety of Supernatural, if you think about it.
