Interesting Mob Flick
17 August 2022
Little Ukraine was a recommendation from a friend who loves gangster flicks. Having no expectations and not knowing who the actors were, I watched and was surprised. Turns out, it's a well made, well acted tale of the Russian/Ukrainian mob in NYC. The film could be a first in depicting mob violence perpetuated by non Italian/Sicilians How come this hasn't ben done before? Cast is made up of American and Russian actors, and there are subtitles when Russians speak to Russians, making the film more realistic and authentic.

Excellent Police Procedural French Style
22 March 2020
Haven't a clue as to why none of the 4 police procedurals featuring Patrick Cresnais and Camillle Panonacle have gone unreviewed. Perhaps it's because each of the individual stories were made over an 8 year span. Excellent acting, plotting, surprise twists and turns, highly entertaining and engrossing, I wish there were more. Patrick Cresnais, unknown here in the USA is a find. No nonsense, straight ahead actor in the tradition of all the great French actors: Raimu, Baur, Gabin, Jouvet, Fresney. Excellent!

Don't Listen To Negative Reviews
29 November 2019
Above average thriller. Bad acting? No. About what you expect from any above average American TV series. Keeps you guessing, absorbing enough to make one want to see the next episode and unless you are an above average tv/movie detective who has figured it out by episode 6, the ending will surprise you. The mystery now is will there be a season 2. Lots of loose ends to tie up.

Interesting, absorbing, but ultimately jumps the shark
24 November 2019
For classical music lovers this is first. A thriller with a murder victim set inside a "mean girls" Paris philharmonic orchestra. Yes I know, I know, Hitchcock got there first with The Man Who Knew Too Much. Knives out for the newly arrived conductor, and all the usual backstabbing, ego driven, one upsmanship of the musicians. Think Black Swan. The series builds a case for a "stay tuned for the next installment," but unfortunately as the series begins the journey to its whodunnit, and very melodramatic conclusion, the show has jumped it's story telling shark, as it becomes quite obvious in BIG NEON LIGHTS, whodunnit before the windup is over.

The Iceman Cometh

All round wonderful record of the play. Beautifully directed by Frankenheimer. Excellent all round cast with top kudos to Frederick March. As to Lee Marvin. He comes alive in the long monologue after foot dragging through the part till then. The ultimate Hickey? The one that can't be touched or beat? My main man Jason. Rent the 1960 TV version directed by Lumet. There you will see greatness. If only Robards played it in the 1973 version, how much deeper it would have become. How ironic that because he didn't get a chance to do the part and ended up in a horrific car accident he nevertheless came back to Broadway in A Moon for the Misbegotten, and once again wiped everyone off the stage with another confessional monologue, the likes of which we will never see again.
