The Mandalorian: Chapter 19: The Convert (2023)
Moved The Plot Along Very Nicely!
This episode was really interesting. Like o-zyosborne said, this episode contained brief appearances of the Mando and focused on a separate set of characters that haven't been seen in quite awhile.
While I am not much of a fan of episodes that take your attention away from the main characters of the story, this one was really interesting for its homage it paid to the prequel trilogy and the insights it gave us into New Republic politics. Ontop of that, this plot is crucial to the story, and perhaps explaining other star wars films. However, I will say that these characters in particular overstayed their welcome, as I would have preferred it if this plot moved along quicker. I did get a little bored in the middle of this plot. It felt really much more like an Andor episode than a Mandalorian one.
Also, although this episode does take your attention away from the Mando and Bo-Katan, their time on screen and interactions are very important, and will pave the way for the rest of the season. While their time is short, their roles in this episode were arguably more important than the bulk of what we have seen in the many filler episodes of seasons one and two.
Loki: Glorious Purpose (2021)
Very Good Pilot Episode by D.B. Cooper!
The pilot was great. I was very enthralled by the new elements added to the MCU contributed by the making of this episode. WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier were boring as hell. Loki seriously puts them in the dust. It has a good distribution between dialogue and plot development alongside the eye candy action sequences we all know and love. WandaVision failed because it consisted of too much dialogue, overtly complicated, and not enough action, while The Falcon and the Winter Soldier does just the same thing but in reverse. Loki finds a fine line between the two. I feel it does a great job setting the tone for the next preceding episodes, leaving me off on a good note--wanting more.
Invincible: That Actually Hurt (2021)
What a Bloodbath!
Finally, I feel as a viewer once again that the character's lives are in danger. I felt unsafe, uncomfortable, and all the more uneasy towards a specific scene in the episode. It was well thought out, not to mention all the action and violence--mwah! The action sequence was just as good as the plot twist illustrated at the end of Episode 1. Just really well done overall. I can't wait to see more of what the show has in store for us.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Battle Scars (2021)
Best episode since the premiere.
Amidst this episode, the plot has finally come back to its roots in the premiere. "Battle Scars" encapsulated the tone that it was going for in episode one. It was dark, gritty, and I felt scared for some of the character's survival during this episode. I loved it. The mystery character reveal was not surprising to me. I am not complaining; their appearance mattered to the plot, the underlying objective of the episode, and the Bad Batch's future. It was meaningful. I'm just delighted this wasn't more filler, something that plagues Star Wars television. (Remember "The Gunslinger" in The Mandalorian?) Therefore I can only hope that the future episodes moving forward are just as meaningful as this one.
