Run (2020)
The acting was good, the writing could have been better
I noticed some mixed reviews on here that give it an overall 6.7 rating at the time of this review. I give it around a 6, maybe 6.5. I didn't watch any trailers and I found part of the story very predictable from the beginning. There is a bit of a twist in there that makes me go Oh yeah, right. It does its job of making you feel uncomfortable and the acting from Sarah Paulson and Kiera Allen was very convincing. I didn't think it was a great film, but worth a watch. I found most of the film predictable including the end but part of the story had a bit of a twist. I wasn't glued to my seat or the screen with extreme anxiety but it did make me feel uncomfortable as intended. Worth a watch.
The Possession (2012)
Nicely paced atmospheric possessed genre
I've skipped this film several times thinking I've already seen it. So many horror films with a similar story that sometimes it's hard to keep track of. I thought from the beginning you're drawn into the likeable family with their share of family dynamic problems. It was not over the top like an after-school family movie special. From there it goes into a nice consistent pace with great acting from all the cast and nice timing with the scenes. I don't want to put any spoilers in this review. I've seen many horror films with a similar script and scare factor with the possessed, but I thought this one of the better ones.
Friendsgiving (2020)
Enjoyable but not great.
It's not a great film but a film with some great lines. I think some people expected it to be a Happy Madison type of comedy production, it's not that. It kinda reminded me of a modern The Big Chill type of film without the insightful depth. I thought the cast was great and seemed natural with their roles. I give it about a 6.5/ 10. Not a great film, but enjoyable.
Kol (2020)
Atmospheric
A decent film. I give it 6.5 to 7/10. Atmospheric and a bit of a slow burner, which I enjoy. The version I watched on Canadian Netflix was dubbed. I usually prefer Foreign Films to be subtitled instead of dubbed to get the emotions of the actors in the film, but even the voice-over actors seem to be connected to the scenes and enjoyed that it was dubbed. The story is interesting and kept me enthralled throughout the film. It's nicely shot and the music/sound works. I wouldn't call this a brilliant film but it is definitely worth a watch.
W lesie dzis nie zasnie nikt (2020)
Mindless fun
I woke up at 4 in the morning and wanted to watch something that wasn't too involved, so this was perfect. The trailer and opening had the late 70s/ 80s style of horror music on which grabbed me. There are some funny parts that I'm not sure if it was meant to be funny, or it's just my sense of humour. I'll just say this without saying too much. It's a camp where teens are sent to because they're addicted to technology and their devices. Funny enough premise? I think so. The movie is from Poland and is dubbed into English or at least the version I watched. I normally prefer subtitles but for an old school style horror film, the English dub made it that much more fun. It does have an old school horror vibe to it. I call it fast food horror that gets pumped out around Halloween. It wasn't bad for 4 in the morning. Entertaining enough to not turn it off.
