Taken (2008)
Neeson is the Bronson of our time
Although...there will never be another Charles Bronson: Neeson does pretty much the same. An 'older' (not old!) gentleman, who is secretly a real bad-ass goes all out to find the kidnappers of his beloved daughter. And man, does he go all-out. When I first heard about this film (or saw a trailer) I just knew I was gonna love it- and I did. But even I could have never anticipated it to become the stone cold classic with some really memorable lines ('GoodLLLuck!') that it has! Fantastic and always fun to re-watch!
Lost Angelas (2019)
How cool is this film!?
I really liked it. I know it's one of those low budget films (actually I checked and it's a so-called 'micro budget' film) but they somehow pulled it off to make it look like a fairly major production. The characters are well-rounded and the plot thickens as you watch (I have to watch it again with friends to see what they think happened at the end!) Full of surprises and a beautiful score. Whoever is behind this little beauty has a bright future.
I would definitely recommend this one to indie film lovers (I already have- to a bunch of my buddies). Check it out, guys!
Hard Times (1975)
10/10
This movie has it all. A feel good story, tough bare knuckle boxing action and Charles Bronson pairing up with the great James Coburn. Man, I love this movie. The music is fantastic, too, especially the theme song. Just pure movie making brilliance. Watch and learn!
Commando (1985)
The 80s action movie of all action movies
Where do I start? Well, first of all we have Arnie in the lead role as the muscle bound ex-special forces guy just trying to lead a quiet life with his teenage daughter...then there's the score. I love the score, the music really drives this movie!
Don't even watch it for the story (although it's a decent plot, especially for an 80s movie) but watch it for the awesome 'Eightysness'!
Buffalo '66 (1998)
One of the weirdest and best movies you can find
One of the hallmarks of this film is that it is so unconventionally, unforgivingly, uncompromisingly strange, which certainly isn't only a result of the writing, but of the lead actor Vincent Gallo. I think he mostly plays himself- not a bad thing, as it really works in this film.
The characters are so refreshingly dysfunctional, it's a trip! Try it, you might like it...and...oh., try to watch with your significant couple, just 'spanning' time!
