Dark Web: Cicada 3301 (2021)
brilliant
Loved it. Don't think there will be a better film coming out this year.
Had it all, comedy, romance, action, mystery, espionage.
If you like murder mysteries you will love this film.
I Care a Lot (2020)
A great story on Karma
I have to admit 3/4 of the film I had no idea what direction it was going. On the one hand you have a couple of lesbians robbing elderly helpless people of all their possessions all while justifying it because women get treated badly by men all the time. But I had read the description and it said that the conwoman would meet her match in this film which does seem to be the case when the russian mob get involved but then again the film takes an unexpected turn and it felt like the conwomen could not lose - this was a big point in the film she kept making , never back down, never accept defeat, no matter the consequences. Well, it wasn't the russian mob that is ultimately her downfall, I would say it was Karma but it was unexpected and tied the film up perfectly. I can see why some people have given this film bad reviews and at times it did feel like these women could practically get away with murder if they wanted to as long as they smiled nicely enough. But I believe the director didn't want to make the russian mob end the film and I actually appreciate that and think it made for a great twist. I'm glad it ended how it did - if it had ended any other way I would have been seriously disappointed like I was with that drivel I watched recently called Shadow in the cloud. I think this film deserves watching again now that I know it has a good ending so I would recommend you give this film a chance, it is a dark film with a strong message of do the wrong thing and bad things will happen, but I find the message this film shows is good, no matter how the conwomen want to persuade themselves that their actions will have no consequences, eventually one of them did and as we saw in the film all it took was one person to mess things up for her in the end.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Nicholas cage , what have you done
I remember watching Nicholas Cage in The Rock with Sean Connery. Now that was a film. What this garbage was I am not sure but if you want to see Nic Cage scrub a bunch of toilets then this is the film for you!!! Or maybe you want to see him do some weird chicken robot dance. Made it all the more entertaining - not.
Also please count how many word Nicholas Cage the main actor of the film says throughout the entire film. I will give you a hint it is less than the stars I have given this production which should give you an idea what you are in for.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
not impressed
Not entirely sure who the target audience was. I think it was made for the gremlins from Gremlins, but certainly not for me.
1 solid star
Monster Hunter (2020)
good animation but no story
Normally a film should leave you happy you watched it. This one I just wasn't too sure of, I basically exclaimed "WHAT?!?" at the end of the movie and that is not a good ending to finish on for any movie!!! I mean yeah there probably will be a sequel which I will welcome but I feel this film was too short and the story is seriously lacking. It's just fight after fight after fight with a bit of vague explanation, a lot of invented words and some strange characters. This could have been so much more. It was clear that a lot of money was spent on this leading to some good cgi effects but after using up all their ammo, the final "boss" comes along and the movie ends. Cmon. I've given it a generous 7 as I was entertained but as is this will just be a film not to be remembered when it could have been a really good film. If they had added a bit of story to this it could have been the next Jurassic Park. As is it just felt like watching an hour long trailer to a story that could have been great.
WandaVision (2021)
Bad decision Marvel
So the first 3 episodes as many have mentioned are cringeworthy.
A bit of a combination of the tv show Full House and Everybody hates Raymond.
Why bring out this garbage? As some reviews have pointed out in order to tie the story together, but why write it like this, they could have written any story but they decide to copy tv sitcoms from the 70's for the first 3 episodes. They even film them in black and white... Not what you would expect from a Marvel 2021 production. What they didn't have enough money for color? No some will argue they did it very cleverly to depict episode 1 as 1960, episode 2 is 1970, episode 3 is set in 1980, episode 4 is 90's syle, episode 5 is 2000, ep 6 then looks like 2010 and that's as far as I've gotten. I am not impressed casting the episodes like this. If I wanted to watch bad tv shows from the 60's I would go watch bad tv shows from the 60's instead of watching episode 1 which is worse than a bad 60's tv show as it tries to copy a bad 60's tv show.
Don't Tell a Soul (2020)
surprisingly good
I wasn't expecting much going in to this, the plot description seemed a bit thin but the twists in the story were really unexpected and kept me entertained throughout. It is a dark film hence not the highest rating and not usually my style but I give it an 8 for its original story and emotional rollercoaster this film provides. Well worth a watch, glad i watched it even if it was deep and one of the most original films I have watched this year. But ps don't tell a soul
Expulsion (2020)
Kept me entertained. Certainly raises the bar for budget films
There aren't many reviews for this yet so I'll add mine since it currently has a very low rating - I've read the 1 star ratings and they all admit they didn't watch more than 10 minutes, the people that did watch this to the end gave it a decent rating. That should be worth noting when judging the reviews. Yes it is low budget, I mean when the plot starts with 2 nerdish actors in tacky clothes in a basement with a few computer parts as their scientific experiment, few ducting pipes and a lot of clutter I thought this was one of a million badly made movies I've seen too many of already but it doesn't take long before the story starts to intrigue you even if implausible and the special effects are not worth bragging about. Give it some time and the story becomes interesting. You develop a bit of a connection to the characters, vince is still a monotonour robot with his acting all through but he is just the sidekick and does add an interesting twist to the story. There are lots of interesting twists that I thought were original. If you watch it past the first 20 minutes and you like sci fi then you will know the special effects are nice but without a story a film is just meh, this has the story, it just lacks the special effects and better budget but I prefer computer games that are fun over computer games that have the best graphics, as such I enjoyed this more than some hollywood films I've watched.
