Cry of Fear (2013)
a good game
This game is an underrated classic that was built on passion, effort and is free to play on Steam.
This game follows Simon, a swedish guy whos trapped in a town filled with monsters. He has to get back to his mom's house and survive.
The game has foreboding atmosphere, everything appears normal, but slowly falls apart. The gameplay limits you, which makes it more intense. Whenever you run away, you can trip on steps, there's limited space to put thing so you always have to debate on whether you pick something up or lose something else.
The game is pretty glitchy and has some weird bugs, but that doesn't hinder the quality of the game, which was made by like, five people, who double up as voice actors in the game. Its kind of easy to forget since the quality of the game is really good.
Anyway, play this game on steam, you won't regret it.
Golden Hour (2019)
This Was Boring
This miniseries might actually be worse than King Candy. While it is technically more professional than his other films, it still sucks.
The plot is painfully slow and just meanders. It ends abruply and badly. The acting is bad. There's one scene where Ralph is talking to some other guy and the whole thing has the energy of the flower scene from The Room.
The whole miniseries was just High (Ralphs first short film) but streatched out to fill a 40 minute run time.
I didn't care about any of the chracters. The main character I can't remember the name of is writing a book or something that doesn;t have anything to do with the story. If he was writing a book about being a drug dealer, then it would have something to do with the plot.
Overall this miniseries was just a waste of time. Watch The Rage: Carrie 2 instead.
The End of the F***ing World (2017)
A Good Show
Good Things:
I think the characters are nice, I like James and ark he goes through in season 2, I like all of writing overall, it's very funny, and has charisma that tells us who the characters are and their relationships. Combined with the good acting, which is pretty solid also, the show keeps me hooked with some interesting characters.
The show deals with themes of loss and acceptance pretty well, the main character Bonnie showing what can happen if you are attached to someone too much, it destroys you, turns you into a monster who only wants revenge. Context: the main characters, James and Alyssa, murder a guy who tried to r*** her in the first season, we later find out that this person is Bonnies supposed lover.
The show is very well paced and I was able to watch it in a few days, mostly because I didn't want to get burnt out, I wanted to make sure I remembered the details of the story and the plot overall.
Bad Things:
Some of the writing is pretty cringe, there's one line where James is talking about how he stuck his hand in a fryer and he says, "I did it because I wanted to feel something." or something like that, that line still makes me cringe when I hear it, just because of how edgy it sounds.
And other than some cringe dialogue that I noticed, I still found it a good watch.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I think this show is pretty good. I recommend people watch it at least once or five thousand times. 8/10.
Death Note: Desu nôto (2006)
I Think It's Pretty Good
Good Things:
The movie has good pacing and a protagonist with a clear motivation who is smart and charismatic. You don't agree with his motives, but you understand them.
I liked the lead and thought he did a good job, along with everyone else. The acting was terrific.
As someone who isn't really that nostalgic for the show, I'll say I though the casting for Light and L was pretty good.
Bad Things:
The story kind of left me unsatisfied, since it's kind of split into two parts, but that's to be expected.
The CG for Ryuk was literal cancer, it looked like a video game that came out when the movie was released, it just looked awful.
I was mad they didn't include the potato chip eating scene. They show a fracture of it, but that's it. Like, what the hell? This scene need to be SEEN, IT NEEDS TO BE WITNESSED, IT THIS LITERALLY THE GREATEST SCENE IN CINEAMATIC HISTORY! WHY THEY INCLUDE SCENE?????????!!!!!!!!!
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I think this is a decent adaptation of the show, 7/10
Daredevil (2003)
The Jumex of Superhero Movies
Jumex is an American emo rapper who makes music that is derivative of other emo rappers. His music is just every emo rap song but worse. But is somehow popular despite this. What does this have to do with reviewing a superhero movie from the early 2000s? Well, like Jumex, Daredevil is a movie that's derivative of every good superhero movie that came out at the time.
Bad Things:
It rips off the hero origin story thing but instead of a origin that makes sense, we get Matt Murdock's origin in this movie, which is that he got chemicals in his eyes that blinded him, but also gave him ninja skills. Yes, that's really what they go with.
It rips off the oveRACtiNg, wacky CArtoOn VILlAin like from Spider-Man one, but instead of well written and interesting character underneath all the cheesy shlock, we have Bullseye. His character is he hates the smell of roses, mugs for the camera a bunch, has the most irish irish accent I've heard. He also can throw things accurately.
The other villain is Kingpin, who screams like his arms got ripped off when he gets kicked in the knees. He probably has the worst villain introduction I've ever seen. The camera pans a building to reveal Kingpin as a cheesy song about how someone is an outlaw plays. Subtle.
Ben Affleck as daredevil is really bad, his character is not only horribly written, but Ben Affleck's performance doesn't elevate the character in any way. His powers are also inconsistent, in one scene, Dare Devil can hear when someone's lying based on the tiniest inflections in their voice, but in another scene, he has to turn the sprinklers on so he can see the villain in the final fight of the movie. So, yeah, this movies portrayal of Daredevil is pretty awful.
Jennifer Garner is in as Elektra who dies very easily when she actually fights someone and is strong and courageous or whatever. She ended up getting her own movie for some reason even though she's the most flat character in whole movie.
Good Things:
The visualization of Matt's powers is pretty good. I liked the villains even though they were over-the-top and stupid.
I think the visual style of the movie is good. Um... yeah I think that's it.
Overall, bad movie 4/10
The Bye Bye Man (2017)
It Kind of Sucks
I think the idea is unique and interesting, but it's ruined by bad direction and effects like something out of a TV show. It's so bland that trying to guess the tone is impossible, it's not serious because of all the dumb, unintentionally hilarious moments like when this guy in the opening shoots all these people.
Bad Things:
It sounds scary enough, but what ruins it is 1) It's shot during the day, so all hope at a scary setting is lost, if it was shot during a sunset or at night, then it would be forgiven. 2) The whole thing is shot in one take, so the already mediocre actors look even worse at their job. If they just shot the scene normally the whole scene would look and be acted more competently. 3) The writing is awful, so even if they did all the things I suggested, the scene would still be bad.
The effects look like a TV show or something, I don't know what the budget was, but this got released in theaters and it looks like a TV miniseries or something. If you were to come across this on Netflix, it would fit right in, you would think this was another cheap Netflix horror movie, that's the level of quality were talking about. Especially the dog thing, it looked like a PlayStation game.
The acting is pretty bad, it's not the actors fault, the garbage script they were given didn't really help them.
It has a lot horror clichés like jumpscares, psychic goth girl, seance and magic thing that really works, scary library scene, claims to be based on a true story and so forth.
Good Things:
The idea is good, I think the idea of an entity that spreads through thinking about him and knowing his name is pretty scary, they should have chosen a scarier name than the Bye Bye Man though.
While the acting is bad, there is one scene with Trinity from the Matrix (I don't the actors name) and this one guy who looks like Dane Dahan where the acting and writing are pretty solid. I really like that scene. I think the Dane Dahan guy can be a good actor when he's given good material and good direction and I guess that scene they accidentally got good acting.
While all the digital effects are bad, the practical effects are solid.
Overall, I think if the idea was given to a more competent person, this could have been a decent horror movie.
I Am Not Okay with This (2020)
People Should Watch This Show
I really enjoyed this series, it was pretty good, and I recommend you watch it, just turn off your computer or phone and pull up Netflix. Binge the whole show and then write your own review. Or don't, I don't really care.
For those who aren't going to do that, I'm going to list 10 reasons why you should just get of your a** and just watch the show.
1. It's very well paced, when you watch it in one go, you'll feel like you've been sitting there for about 2 minutes.
2. This show needs more people watching it, I think that the more people watch it, the more this starts to become an iconic show.
3. Yeah, I can't really think of anything else, on with the actual review if your still here.
Good Things:
Because I'm still going to try and convince you to watch this show, I'll start with the good things. Also, this review contains spoilers in case you want to watch it yourself, but you already knew that.
The first good thing about this movie is the characters, there's Syd, the main character who despite the actor being like, 18 years old, has the height and look of a teenager. She also plays her character so well that it was easy to forget she was 18 years old. She also carries this film very well, aided by the good writing of this show.
I also liked Wyatt Oleff as Stanly Barber, who acts as the comedic relief, but has a good enough personality to be stand out as a character. He's the local weird, stoner guy who has an abusive father and wants to become a Jellyfish so he can be around when humans are long since dead from pollution and fossil fuels (don't ask).
And then there's Dina, who is the weakest character out of the bunch, she's mostly a side character who serves to move the plot forward rather than stand out as a character, but she's still memorable and has nice little interactions.
There's the kid who's eh, he's smart and that's his only character trait. He's also a kid, but he still memorable and has things going on in his life.
The story is well paced and doesn't slow down at any points, the final episode (if you haven't seen the show, do it right now!) is by far one where the most happens, the other episodes have things happening too, but in the final episode, Syd is trying to be normal and decides to go to prom, she's having a good time until the Brad Lewis (the antagonist of the first season) steals her Diary and reads her secrets to the whole school, causing her to get so embarrassed, she blows his head up, causing everyone to run away. It is by far a good climax to the show.
Bad Things:
First problem, if your name isn't Syd Novak or Stanley Barber, you're a background character with limited development who only serves to move the plot forward, which is something you probably noticed from when I was talking about the characters.
Now, this isn't a bad thing because I can still remember their names, but it isn't really the best part of the show.
Also, throughout the show, we get Syd's Diary narrations that I have mixed feelings on. On one hand, they do serve a purpose in the story, on the other hand, they kind of break the show-don't-tell rule in screenwriting and there are points where if you remove the narration from the scene, it actually makes the scene better.
I thing that depresses me about this show is that Netflix cancelled it due to COVID-19, which wouldn't be a problem accept it was left on a cliffhanger, meaning if I watch the show again, it'll end and I'll want more, and unlike other shows that get left on cliffhangers because of cancellation, There are only 7 episodes, so this show barley even got started and it got cancelled.
Anyway, that's my review of I Am Not Okay with This, I'm going to give this show an 8/10.
Slender Man (2018)
The Scariest Film Since Toy Story
Good Things:
The movie has nice direction and good cinematography. I like the way the movie looks.
Some of the acting is decent.
Bad Things:
Even though the direction is pretty good (despite the movie relying heavily on jumpscares like a lot of modern horror movies) it falls flat on the script and just everything else. The characters are bland as hell, without any real character traits that will make me connect with them in any way.
The story is very slow paced and kind of a drag, a lot of scenes in the trailer were cut out of the movie to make it marketable to teenagers, who probably ended up hating it anyway.
The scares are pretty awful, the majority of them are jumpscares (aka just a loud sound being added to scare the audience a bit) and the ones that aren't are hilarious, I found myself laughing at every ridiculous attempt to try and scare the audience.
Overall, pretty bad, 4/10
It (1990)
A Dumb Miniseries. But Overall, Enjoyable
Bad Things:
This miniseries if awkward and pretty dumb. It takes itself too seriously even though it has moments like one of the characters holding up his bird book like a shield and reciting as loud as he can, the names of all the birds he can remember. The miniseries words, not mine.
The characters are kind of one dimensional and underwritten like Stan, one of the seven main kids, who is scared of the clown thing more than the other kids and then offs himself, that's his entire character. There's also the one dimensional Stephen King bullies. They threaten people with knives and I think that's it.
The final half of the miniseries with the adults drags on and on, the pacing just slows to a dead halt. The adult section is by far the worst part of the whole miniseries. The adults are just bland actors and don't feel like the kid versions at all, the miniseries ends with the usual bad Stephan King ending. A giant spider thing that was suppose to be the clown thing attacks the kids and they beat it up.
Good Things:
The characters that aren't underwritten are fairly good, until their adults.
Tim Curry's performance as pennywise the clown, despite not being very scary, is actually entertaining and brings a sense of life through the slog that is the second half of this miniseries.
I think it does a decent job adapting the um... mature nature of kings work to a kid audience, even though it leaves really awkward moments like the library scene, which is just hilariously awkward.
6/10
Possum (2018)
I Can Understand Why This Movie Has a 5.7/10
It's a great film, I think a lot of people should see it, it honestly should be seen by a lot of people.
Good Things:
The movie has an apocalyptic feel, the locations look war torn and you get the feeling like there used to be people there, but something happened to them.
The cinematography is nice and sets the mood pretty well.
The two characters are well written despite the fact there's not that much dialogue. I get a feel for them and their struggles.
This movie is mostly held up by the performances from both of the leads, the movie tackles dark issues and is overall pretty good.
Bad Things:
I get why someone would give this movie a bad score, but I think you should at least try it out to see how you like it.
The movie moves at a very slow pace and can drag on for some time. The whole movie moves at a slow pace and is told in a non-linear order, which can be kind of confusing and combined with the slow pace, can create the illusion that the movie has a slow and bad plot.
The Hedgehog (2013)
Great Movie, Only Has One Problem
Okay, I'm gonna start with the good things first.
Good Things:
I liked the cinematography, it conveyed a feeling of stillness, the grain on the footage was also a nice touch and added to what the film's subject matter is.
The acting was powerful and I knew what the characters were thinking dispite the fact that there was no dialogue. I really liked the kid actor in it, he did a pretty good job, which is not something I say often.
The pacing was also pretty good, I don't think I could cut a single scene out without damaging the story. On the topic of editing, I also think the color grating was nice.
Bad Things:
The only complaint I have about the movie is that you need to read the interviews to what's going on throughout the film, otherwise, this movie won't make any sense.
Anyway, that was my short review of this short film.
Beaster Day: Here Comes Peter Cottonhell (2014)
"It... It's Awful" -Jontron
The Bad Things:
E V ER Y T H I NG.
Good things:
They tried I guess.
Your Movie Sucks (2010)
Adam is Just Another Nitpicky Movie Critic
I'm not against all movie critics, there are good ones out there, Adam Johnson is just not one of them.
Bad Things:
For starters, his reviews are just dumb nitpicks of a movie that isn't really that bad. Like when he calls the ADR in Amusment horrible because you can kind of hear an echo if you listen closely. Okay, so??? What about the plot, how's the plot Adam, HOW'S THE PLOT, WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERS LIKE, ADAM?? STOP NITPICKING THE MOVIE ADAM!!!!
Good Things:
Overall, I think he's a funny guy who can make witty comments on movies sometimes, but he's not a good film critic.
Spider-Woman (1979)
UUUUuuuUUUuUuUUuuUUUuh...
Bad Things Things:
Well, its a thing. It has the animation of a hannabarbara cartoon, the kingpin is the worst drawn character in existance and stuff, he looks like he was drawn by a 14 year old trying to redraw something he saw in a comic book. Everyone is so lathargic, whenever theres trouble, they all just walk slowly to the thing or something. Whenever the characters walk, it's the same walkcycle from the side that looks like a frickin' video game from the 80s, I don't have any energy ot review this, I don't even know why I'm writing, read some other reviews, they probably say the same thing.
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
it's a movie where things happen
Its not a horrible movie, but it isn't good either. First, lets start with the bad"
Its very boring, the characters are badly written, the whole thing is just porn disguised as a movie, the dialogue is bad and the chemestry between the characters is bad. Oh, and the names are hilariously bad.
Now lets talk about the good, because everyone wants to hear me talk about the good things in this movie.
The cinematography is good, the colors during scenes are very well done. When Christian is onscreen, the colors are all grey and lifeless, but when Anesthesia is onscreen, the colors are vibrant and orange. Even though the story is boring and a slog to sit through, at least the movie has a story and a reason (kind of) to why the porn stuff is happening. I think anything that isn't related to the plot is garbage.
Overall, I this movie doesn't deserve all the hate its gotten, but it still isn't very good.
King Candy (2015)
So Bad Its Good... Sometimes
I like Ralph Sepe, I like movies. But when those two worlds come together, its hilarious.
Bad Things:
The "true story" aspect comes into question when you consider that some random high school kid convinced a gang to join him. It wasn't a real gang, but still. I don't know what is real and what isn't real, which I think is probably the point?
The so bad its good aspect comes from the acting or the dialougue, you have the failed monolougue I mentioned earlier, but you also have Ralphs little brother, who when asked why he wants help people he doesn't know, he says, "God.". We find out later that he's actually donating to his church, but I don't think anyone. even a christian, would say "God." as his answer to why he wants to help people.
Other moments include every single time Ralph tries to be intiminating, his freakout with his girlfriend, the bad acting and/or dialougue. I don't recomend this movie, even to people who enjoy bad movies because its not stupid enough to be considered so bad it's good, it's mostly just boring.
Good Things
It has a good script and the dialogue is not terrible, although it has its moments. Ralph is good, but he doesn't work at ALL as the character he's potraying. He looks more like a little kid than his little kid brother, who's also in this film. The best and worst scene comes when Ralph gives his attempt at a Quentin Tarentino type monolougue. One, he doesn't look intiminating at all, an two, he says it in a really monotone way. The real best actor in the film is the guy who plays the Hall Monitor, because he actually comes off like his character. But sadly, he's in like, three scenes.
The cinematigraphy is good, but for every beutiful shot, there's an equally bad one. The color grading also looks hideous and there are many examples of bad lighting. I think ralph started the film when he didn't know much about cineatography and slowly learned more as time went on. The editing is always good and gets the mood across effectivly.
Overall, bad film, 4/10
The Room (2003)
Wow, Just-Just, Wow: A Complex and Detailed Retrospective on The Room
This movie is amazing! The acting is poor, the dialogue and writing are the worst I've ever seen, it fails miserably at telling a serious and complicated story. And yet, it manages to be the best thing ever!
