Armageddon meets Independence Day
17 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand the poor ratings given for this movie, it's exactly what it says on the tin. Full of action, sure a bit cliche at times, a tad cheesy in areas, but hey what end of the world movie isn't. Though it is interesting yet again to note that we should all be thankful for the good 'ol US of A for saving the day (or even have any sort of plan, come to that) Seems if there's a disaster of cataclysmic proportions then the rest of the world are useless.

The three main characters put up an all round good performance and to be honest one thing I am glad of was the fact the main character wasn't the usual over the top, take on the world single handed machismo type that usually pops up in this genre.

Is it a 10? No, but a solid 8 out of 10, don't plough into this movie expecting an A rating blockbuster movie and it will entertain. Not a A+ star pupil film but certainly not a stay behind after class film either.

How It Ends (2018)

Meh
12 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie has no end so why bother watching the beginning. A typical wannabe movie that actually had potential. Maybe someone is playing a cruel joke with the title. Having said that, How It Ends is all anybody is going to mention about this film.

The Orville 'enhanced'
6 August 2022
As a big fan of this series from the beginning, it is absolutely clear that in addition to renaming the show with the inclusion of New Horizons in the title, wether down to increased budget or larger audience, has taken a new direction. It has in a sense 'grown up' though some may prefer the term matured.

No longer a humour laden parody of Star Trek, now more an alternative. Essentially what drew many of its viewers initially was the brilliant comedic talent of Seth MacFarlane, throwing caution to the wind with his endless ability to send up serious situations in a way only he can do. Using the years of Family Guy genius to bring a new spin on a genre which has always followed a strict format.

The Orville: New Horizons is still brilliantly written, that's not in dispute, but the humour is less, this is clear. I'm not sure if this deviation is to attract a bigger audience to entice the fans of the more established shows or wether the parody beginning was merely a way to get a foot in the door. We don't need another Star Trek spin off, season one was like nothing else, technically brilliant, great stories and funny, season two continued in similar fashion. Season Three lost some of its magic in my opinion, wether because of the more serious, more political storylines or the dumbing down in comedy. I think the balance has to be addressed.

Where to start
4 August 2022
I was fished into watching this movie from its insidiousesque trailer. This I'm afraid as far as it goes. The film itself is horrifically low budget in places that it's amazing to believe this made it onto Netflix at all.

The horror genre gets a bad rap generally speaking when it comes to ratings, it's hard to find a high rated film, most of the big name classics have moved to a pay per view format so what we are left with is a few that fell through the net and the rest which are mainly copies of the big franchises. Insidious this is not. Not the worst horror film out there, but don't expect edge of your seat, face behind cushion scares here.

This is NOT Resident Evil

If you don't stick to the original characters, you fall flat from the get go. I'm all for equality but you can't just change characters to fit an agenda.

A very very very poor representation of a great franchise and yet another 1 star review.

Possibly the worst film of all time
2 September 2021
There is nothing that can save this film from contender for worst movie. The acting is cringeworthy, the costumes and 'special' effects are laughable. It's hard to think what was going on in the minds of its creators, maybe they were playing a joke on us.

It makes b-Movies like like Hollywood blockbusters. I'm not entirely sure that forced watching could be used as punishment.

B movie
27 August 2021
I wanted to like this movie with it featuring a surprisingly competent array of stars such as Samuel L Jackson and Scarlett johansson, recognises actors from Marvel movies. Alas in reality it's a good b-movie at best, in fact I actually watched this on Pluto which shows listings for tv shows and movies for free, usually cheaper movies that the big players won't include on their sites.

Anyway, the Sin City style cinematics are fine enough but it always feels like it's trying too hard and the aforementioned big names seem more like cameos.

Would I pay to watch the movie..no, would I play it had I seen it on one of the big streaming sites, perhaps not.

I gave it a go on Pluto but lasted about half an hour. Not even Scarlett Johansson could save this one.

How have I not seen this before?
7 April 2021
Can't believe this film has been around since 2013 and I've never even heard of it. What a gem, a thoroughly enjoyable film. Great casting, always love Steve carells acting, must have been easier with his girlfriend in this being called Pam. I thought he'd be the good guy, the rock. Who knew. But for me it was Sam Rockwell that stole the show.

Sometimes a character pops up in a movie and makes all the difference, you wish that they didn't have to end with the movie, Owen was that character and Sam played it admirably and I bet many can relate to this movie, from different perspectives and that's what makes this a real heartwarming watch.

Ticks all the boxes

You know it's a good film when you come on here and write a review. Chloe Moretz gave a superb performance, really drawing you into the character and in turn the illness suffered, bringing with it awareness to a condition that had gone misdiagnosed for many years. Giving real thought to how many people may have been treated for psychiatric conditions instead. Think the cast was perfect for the film, Richard Armitage always seems to play these roles and with good reason.

No surprises
7 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I always wondered why streaming services rate horror movies so badly. Splinter is one of them movies that gives you exactly what you expect, nothing more, nothing less. For many this is exactly all that's required, a no frills in your face horror. It's not a bad film, just nothing you wouldn't expect to see on free channels. Kinda the Thing meets evil dead. Good movies of their time, but that's just it, nothing here has really moved on since then. No twists or clever plot here, just a predictable in your face bloody horror with the classic ending.

All the ingredients to a fun movie
18 December 2020
What's not to like about this film. Perfect casting, genuinely funny without being stupid. These three should work together in other movies as the chemistry is spot on, a modern day three Amigos, which contrasts perfectly as the similarities are uncanny and the perfect example of what works, Jason Sudeikis being your Chevy Chase, Charlie Day an obvious Martin Short and Jason Bateman as the semi straight man Steve Martin. Each a front man in his own right gel as a comedy trio. Jennifer Aniston who has starred in movies before with Sudeikis and Bateman, plays the role magnificently, don't think anyone else could have played the part quite that convincingly. All in all a fun film, definitely worth a watch.

So the point was?
13 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Okay so the movie as a concept..great, nobody loves more to see modern day (at the time) might against outdated firepower of the enemy, especially when it includes an event still close to every bodies hearts. Can a modern US aircraft carrier really ward off the attack on Pearl harbour? Is that a possibility?, I'd sure like to see what happens nevertheless. The whole movie leads upto this point, infact that is the movie in full, ding ding let the fight commence. Except no, as in many movies the ugly time travel paradox rears it's ugly head making sure we will never find out. Fine, I guess that is the way, but when you analyse the movie you end up with the realisation that there was literally no point. The only scuffle was with a couple of random Japanese Zero pilots. I feel a little cheated if I'm brutally honest.

Made for TV type movie at its best
14 November 2020
I was surprised that of movie of this type received 4.5 stars on Prime, so I thought I'd give it a go. Was exactly as I had imagined, A typical made for tv type of movie, obvious plot, cheesy special effects played by actors you'd expect at this level. Not to say this was a bad film, when you press play, you know exactly what you're going to get. I think the movie is average at best, cheap and cheerful and not to be taken too seriously. Best described as a Sunday afternoon movie.

Above average
3 October 2020
With a pretty decent cast, this film has enough to keep you watching but never going to be good enough that you'll be talking about it after it's finished. Not surprising that I actually watched from one of those free channels apps that usually play "handed out" movies that don't get viewers elsewhere. Not a bad film by any means and both Sudeikis and Maisie Williams are thoroughly solid throughout.
