The Boy Behind the Door (2020)
Great Child Actors, Not A Fan of the Rising Action
The major component of what I enjoyed about the film is the dynamic and poignant performances of the child actors in the film. However, my general feelings of the film's story progression is one of frustration and eye rolls.
I do realize that film's protagonist is a child so poorly thought out action makes sense. Child characters can't be presumed to have the most logical survival instincts. Still, I felt more irritation toward the antagonist or general logistics of the occurrences in the film.
Still, I definitely give it kudos for both taking on a dark real life subject as well as the actors performances.
The Stylist (2020)
Focused Film on the Perspective of a Psychopath
NOTICE: I am a kickstarter backer for the film so my personal view was mostly shaped from excitement for the film.
This turned out to be a enjoyable follow up to the short film with the same name. A bit of a issue with the movie is that though the focus' through the perspective of the killer, the logistics or motivations of the killer seems to be just as puzzling. I believe I caught on to the majority of the hints and character interaction to get a strong idea of the protagonist's means of actions but I have come away at the end with a lot of questions.
There is also a personal issue with certain logistics of the story but I do think that the film is an interesting exploration of a cosmetically appealing and reserved individual whose secret life spirals out of control.
Girl (2020)
Interesting Suspense Film With Intriguing Twists
The performances by the entire cast is on point. Themes of inheritance prevails in the film, be it abuse, poverty, or general human folly. The final resolution didn't land for me but I do see this film as high quality in performance, suspense, and visual story telling.
Teddy (2020)
Entertaining Execution, Questionable Logic
For the most part, the performances are well done and subdued while the rising action has a decent pace. For me, I had more of an issue with the logistics of the film in terms of the body horror and the climax scene of the film. I do think it's worth a watch and the performance of the lead is laudable.
