Kalifat (2020)
Great Swedish series
Definitely the best Swedish series I've seen (I live in Sweden) and among the best series about modern terrorism and young people's radicalization from any country. Well-acted, well-paced, nuanced, almost entirely believable.
The Man in the High Castle (2015)
An excellent finale to a great series
The last season is definitely my favourite of the four. It did a great job focusing on the story of the Smiths and making the oh so otherworldly Nazi America seem more plausible and, shall we say, more American than it was in the first three seasons.
Mars (2016)
Nice Hopeful Hard Sci-Fi
This series doesn't have its characters get eaten by Mars zombies or taken over by evil space ghosts. A bunch of hurrahs for that. Whatever drama does occur is entirely based on fairly realistic assumptions about what we will have to deal with when we make it to Mars: the harsh environment and our own shortcomings.
The story is fine; the acting is fine; the present-day documentary parts are engaging enough (I was especially happy to see the series cover a recent anthrax outbreak in the Russian Far North). The mix of caution and optimism is great. All in all, I was thinking of giving it 8 stars, but then I read some of the comments here and made it 10. The 2 bonus stars is for driving nuts right-wing science deniers and snowflake incels who can't handle a show dominated by female characters in spacesuits and positions of power.
