The Fourth Kind (2009)
Really really disappointed
I saw the trailer for this film and really looked forward to it. The film started and it sounded really interesting. I'm an educated person, I love offbeat unusual films but this was just not scary, not scary at all. The worst bit, I fell asleep twice due to it being so slow. The pace didn't add tension it just got intensely boring.
Towards the end it had a couple of mildly exciting bits and then it just got ridiculous. Probably the worst film I've ever seen and I'm never this harsh.
This film could have been done so much better. Even if the "real" footage isn't real (I actually did think it was and that was the only scary thing in the film that something like this could actually happen) it just could have had so much pace and intrigue compared to the tripe that was produced in the end.
Just wish I hadn't forked out for a cinema ticket.
The Sandy Bottom Orchestra (2000)
the french version...
I watched this film in dubbed French and it was the first time I've been able to watch a dubbed-film all the way through. I loved the fact that the film moves quite slowly and I felt that it had a certain "Fried Green Tomatoes in the WhistleStop Cafe" (one of my favourite movies) feel about it. It certainly wasn't as gritty as FGTitWC but I was glued for the entire afternoon.
This is a really good movie if you are really hungover or tired and don't need particularly brain tormenting TV to watch. I would recommend it for a group of girls especially if they're already into classical music.
A Scanner Darkly (2006)
A look into the future with uninspired results
A film that is supposed to be thought-provoking yet I found increasingly irritating and predictable.
Found the animation totally superfluous to the film, however it did provide some facial acting for Keanu Reeves!
I gave the film a rating of 4 because it did highlight a probable situation of drug abuse in our society in the future. It's a pity that the film makers felt that the story needed gimmicks and totally transparent plot lines to put this across. I must confess that I entered the cinema with no idea of the subject of the film and would probably have watched it anyway as the future situation of our society is of great interest to me usually.
Although tackling the future this turned out to be a total waste of an hour and 45 minutes.
