The Hi-Line (1999)
Rachael Leigh Cook's best film yet!
I think that "The Hi-Line" shows what a great actress Rachael Leigh Cook is. The film itself is a little slow, but Rachael makes it worth watching. I think she does a great job of portraying someone who feels like there is something more to her life, but dosen't know what it is.
Josie and the Pussycats (2001)
This movie was poorly marketed.
"Josie and the Pussycats" was a great satire of our "mass consumerism" society. Many criticized the massive product placements. I think those people missed the point of the movie. In a good satire, sometimes the humor is missed(ex.I totally missed the humor of "Scream", I still think it is just another slasher flick) because the satirization becomes the object of the satire. The movie was marketed to the 10-13 year-old crowd, but the humor was aimed toward adults. If it wasn't marketed as a "chick flick" for 10-13 year-olds, it might have done better.
Antitrust (2001)
The true criminals is the director.
AntiTrust could have been a great vehicle for Rachael Leigh Cook, but the director cut out her best scenes. In the scenes that she are in, she is just a zombie. She is involved in a sub-plot that is simular to a sub-plot in "Get Carter", but she handles the sub-plot better in "Get Carter".(I blame the director) The director's homage to Hitchcock was corny. (It's the scene were Ryan Philippe's charactor realizes he may not be able to trust Tim Robbin's charactor, at least I think it's a homage to Hitchcock. The DVD shows the scenes that were cut out. I think the director should have trust his instincts and not listen to the test audiences.
Get Carter (2000)
Rachael Leigh Cook's the best part of the movie.
I am not a Sly Stallone fan, but since Rachael was in this movie I saw it anyway. I totally hate the flash cut editing. I thought that the editing distracted from key fight scenes and was just plain annoying. Sly was better than I thought he would be, but I still think he's mediocre as an actor. Rachael Leigh Cook saved the film(as she does with most of her films, even if she is only in a fifteen or so minute scene like "Naked Man"). The best scene is the one where her character,"Doreen", reveals a troubling secret. I felt she should have been nominated for at least a Golden Globe for that scene alone.
She's All That (1999)
Rachael Leigh Cook steals the movie.
This is the movie were I discovered Rachael Leigh Cook. The movie would have been just a teen knock off of "Pygmalian"if it weren't for Rachael's skill in drama(look for the scene were "Laney" gets humiliated). Even though Rachael steals the whole movie, Paul Walker is good as a slimeball, Gabrielle Union is good as a supporter of Laney and Dule` Hill also is good.
