Best One Yet, But Where's The Continuity?
6 July 2010
I saw this film with my girlfriend on the sneak preview weekend in the UK, and I had expected it to be the best film of the series as it was also the best book of the series too. When i walked out of the cinema the first thing I said was they needed David Slade from the start. Perhaps he wouldn't have captured the emotion of the first two films as they are more of an over-riding factor than in this one which is all geared towards the battle, but he did brilliantly. Without giving too much away the fight scene was very well choreographed and fully deserving of the MTV movie award for best fight scene it will undoubtedly win.

My grievance with this movie is that there is no continuity between the films. for example in all three films when vampires are injured in some way it is different: Twilight: rip like flesh New Moon: crack like stone Eclipse: Weird crystal stuff? Also it may have just been me but I'm certain Jasper and Carlise never had these accents in the first two films which have now just been invented to fit in with their back stories. Whether this was down to the fact the director changes constantly, I don't know, but it was at the back of my mind constantly

overall however this film was easy to lose myself in, and towards the end even felt like a Harry Potter film with the cheery reconciliations accompanied by upbeat music. highly recommend for fans of the series as i doubt Breaking Dawn will live up to these standards

Average so so Average
10 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
i went to this film with high expectations, the premise seemed fantastic and i usually enjoy anything with vampires, however this movie was just so average.

it can't make its mind up about which theme to follow, it has three ideas in the film. 1) human blood is running short, 2) vampires with a lack of blood become primal "sub-suckers" and 3) becoming human again. from these three ideas though, nothing is foregrounded. they all seem to be in the background together meaning the movie progresses without any real focus on any the film also hardly lives up to what the trailer promised as a vampire vs human war the movie is however saved by Willem Defoe who delivers many one liners which had me laughing out loud overall average and a 6/10

A Review From The Middle
21 November 2009
I call this a review from the middle because i am neither one of the legions of twi-hards or one of the people who hate the series without reason. Yes i have read the novels but i actually found Stephanie Meyer to lack writing ability, although i still found the books enjoyable Personally for me this movie was better than Twilight, which i gave 6/10. Of the actors in the film i feel Kristen Stewart does very well in playing Bella in the darkest part of her life where she is abandoned by Edward, and Robert Pattinson also does well despite his lack of screen time. I also feel Ashley Greene is fantastically cast as Alice.

My only problems with this movie really are Taylor Lautner as Jacob and the lack of fangs on the vampires. Firstly Lautner may be a very attractive guy, but his acting ability is almost non-existent, I hadn't noticed in the first film as his screen time was minimal but once he takes centre stage it becomes clear he is out of his depth here. The lack of fangs on vampires annoys me as this is the most famous feature of a vampire, right back to Bram Stoker's Dracula, and in having them missing to me we are just watching sparkly people, not real Vampires.

Overall however i thought the movie was entertaining, but expect Eclipse to be the peak of the series.

Most Pointless Sequel Ever?
15 August 2008
OK first off i was put off this movie by the fact that Eddie Murphy didn't want to be in it, which looking at the films he pumps out now is saying something (i have Norbit in mind) i only saw this movie as a friend had it so it didn't cost me anything, and i was sorely disappointed.

I had always liked Cuba Gooding Jr. since i saw him in rat race, but this has ruined my opinion of him.

I found this movie unfunny and as it develops it becomes a poor mans cheaper by the dozen 2 (which was no masterpiece itself) truly a film to avoid
