One of the best, if not the best, movie about the Gulag there is out there. Must see this. Gorgeous, real, and heartbreaking cinematography and acting. This movie will fill your life and heart with what it means to be human. Don't miss this movie!

This movie was so unrealistic and bad I had to turn it off. I eventually went back to finish it and it was so laughable it wasn't even funny. It does a great disservice to the actual Gulag dissidents and prisoners. It also downplays the number of millions killed by the Soviet Union in the Gulag camps. Don't waste your time on this movie.

Highly recommended movie. Rare in that it examines the psychology of dissidents in a Soviet Gulag camp. It is up close and personal and we really get to know the dissidents over the course of the movie. As a Russian I loved that this movie had real Russian actors playing the roles, it made the movie very real. Yes it is a very low budget movie but the good part of that was the camera could frame the faces tightly and we got to know the dissidents at close range and get into their minds.

A really great movie to watch. Highly recommended. Realistic and Great Movie on the Gulag extermination camps. The Soviet Union killed over 70 million of its own Russian and Ukrainian people and this was the first movie in history to show it. Nobody wants to watch movies about mass killing, but it is important we remember history and genocide, so that it does not repeat.

Extremely real and authentic. This movie will rock your soul and heart. It so realistic it made me cry. It had real Ukrainian women acting in it. This director is one of the best working today. The guts she had in casting unknown Ukrainian women to act in the roles and the brutal and honest portrayal of the sex slavery industry of Ukraine girls and women, is so truthful and heartbreaking. A must see movie!

Not authentic. This film has a British person, Jude Law, trying to portray a Russian. There are plenty of good Russian actors. Why not have a Russian actor play the part? At least the accent would have been authentic. Then having an American play the part of a German. Sorry, but this casting is so off and wrecks the story in my view.
