13 Seconds (2003)
Run away, away from this movie, QUICKLY!!!
I am still trying to wrap my brain around the awards this film has won. Yes, it's budget must have been low, yes, the cast and crew must have been classmates, yes a flashlight worked for lighting in Blair Witch... but none of this works here. The acting is beyond atrocious, so bad I was glad the sound wasn't synced. The special effects were... appalling, the script was painful, but the worst of all this horrid, make-shift "film" would be the lighting. It was beyond irritating, it was like using a cheese grater on your knees. It's really clear that the rest of this groups classmates or whatnot have tried desperately to upgrade this bowel movement beyond it's actual potential. It deserves to be flushed, never be seen again.
Deux frères (2004)
Children should watch this.
This is probably one of the more accessible (and entertaining) movies about animal conservation catered to those of young and old. The DVD contains wonderful extras about Tigers and educating thus forth. The movie builds an awareness and sense of caring for creatures otherwise unknown to many (at least on a somewhat intimate level). It shows how humans used to be and how some still are. It also expresses growth and concern for other things around us (ie. the tigers and national treasures).
I know some may say there is an inappropriate "intimate" scene but this is nature folks, not invincible bubble world where storks deliver children. It doesn't even show this scene long enough for great comprehension. So please don't avoid it because of this.
I highly recommend.
Darkness (2002)
100% unadulterated GARBAGE.
I'm so glad that I got free tickets to this, but I would really love those 103 minutes of my life back. This movie (not worthy of being called a film) was poor from the start. Relying on the increasingly common "twitchy camera" effect for their only source of something horrific you know there are problems. This movie is a direct rip-off of various classics mulched together in pathetic stew of bad acting, no plot and even worse script. Everyone in the theater was laughing it was so horrid. Not a scream or jump in the lot of us. I would suggest you save your money and time and rip your toenails off, that would have a better effect on you than this pathetic movie.
May (2002)
In the muck and mire rises a beautiful flower
I just finished watching this movie and I am in awe. With most Lion's Gate it's either really really bad or quite good. This was one of the rare goodies that they have produced.
Movies like this makes watching hundreds of bad ones worthwhile.
It's a story of an awkward girl leading an awkward life and just trying to fine someone to befriend her. The cast does a wonderful job portraying the characters, the script is rather good, the mood is perfect. You can really feel for "MAY".
I highly recommend
The Last Unicorn (1982)
Memories pass me by.
I rate this in my top 3 favorite fantasy movies of all time. Second to Legend followed by The Never Ending Story.
I saw this when I was a child and ever since kept the feelings I lived with this movies. I bought the video a few years back and I still felt the same. Whether it was purely nostalgia, or the fact that this is a classic tale for young and old about our fantasies as children. The mysteries if such fabled creatures ever did exist and what could have happened to them. Fantasy movies now are lack luster. They don't pull at your heart strings and imagination the way the older films can. The animation reminds me a little of Ralph Bakshi, it's not the greatest, but everything else well makes up for it.
If just for nostalgia purposes, or the fact you want to share this to your kids, a definate must.
In Dreams (1999)
Not for the dull witted
I've been reading the reviews people have given this film. Either you like it or you don't. Generally I find the people who adore this movie obviously have some form of education, and don't mind "thinking" while watching a film, instead of having it spoon fed to them like the majority of mindless dribble that monopolizes our theaters today.
My husband and myself saw this in theaters, and bought it as soon as it came out. We found it intense, riveting, imaginative, inspiring, fantastical and horrific. The performances by everyone were wonderful, the story, even though loosely based on the book "Doll's Eyes" by Barri Wood, was a very original idea. The cinematography was great... the whole feel was PHANTASMAGORIC!!!!!
So, if you are a moron, don't bother, if you like a challenge, then definitely watch this film. It's subtleties are lost on the brain deficient
Lake Placid (1999)
Dark comedy
I don't feel that this movie was intended on being truly scary. With all the formats of a comedy with a twist. It's funny as hell. A great B movie in the making. Don't go into this movie think you'll be scared, you wont, you may even find it dumb, if you actually thinks it's a horror movie, that doesn't say much for you. Kimodo was supposed to be a horror movie, same with Anaconda, they were just BAD, but with placing Betty White in a movie, you know it's a comedy. Some of her lines are awesome, and think it's worth seeing.

The Blair Thumb (2002)
JISSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
This ditty was great for a laugh. You need to have a good sense of humour to watch this, and maybe even the need to like, or maybe dislike the blair witch project. I found it very entertaining, and I tried not to like it seeing as I was forced to watch it, now I'm trying to hunt down thumb wars.

Chasing Sleep (2000)
Odd...
When I sat down to watch this, I was going blind. When it started, I figured the dialect sported either a low budget c movie, or an unusual movie. It seemed rather slow and confusing (but not in the part of not being able to follow it). I felt the way it was written helps to the atmosphere of this movie, the little things that happen, the way they talk, how some things didn't mesh or flow. It adds to the oddness of this film. It's not Lynch strange, there is a plot to follow. I think if you enjoy films that aren't "normal" then give this a gander. It's unique, but not in a good or bad way.
