Elemental (2023)
Pixar is no longer shining bright like the little lamp it was
I wasn't expecting soul / zootopia level of deep storytelling and funny moments, however I didn't expect the migrants teenager girl love story / cinderella knockoff either.
I didn't mark this one as 'spoiler' cos there's really not a story to spoil anyways, if it was a live action movie I'd give it a 5 star but since it's well animated (the water effect was REALISTIC!) I gave it one extra star for the visual. I'm pretty sure it'll be nominated for best visuals in the next academy awards.
However the story, the story! It was hollow, plain, boring, and familiar. Your typical rich white guy with teenage migrant girl from the mideast (yeah you can totally tell the fire elemental was from the mideast - well makes a lot of sense ini't?).
Good family movie if you have young kids and don't feel like using your brain much.
Glass Onion (2022)
Daniel Craig getting out of his typecast
In general very tightly structured, zero pee time movie.
In some way it feels like "Don't Look Up 2" with a lot of references to current affairs and politically correctness.
Also a very smart movie - it's not quite obvious until the last minute so you'll always be inclined to find out what's happening next.
The leading female role was exceptionally well done - she's got both the physical beauty and mature acting skills.
Most characters are well done except a few that tried a bit too hard - but overall great performance.
The stage is set on an island so the whole thing happens in a mansion basically, feels a bit like a stage show (actually probably will make a great stage show too).
This is the series that Daniel Craig finally got out of his James Bond stereotype and became a true actor, instead of an action star.
Very enjoyable, go watch it.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
A family story disguised as a sci-fi action flick
The hidden gem of 2022, this is a must to see if you like action and wild fantasy story.
It just proves that you don't need a big budget to tell a good story.
I won't spoil but this is a story about a mom and her daughter.
Just go watch it.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Just the opposite to justice league
If justice league was cut too much and deserved a full length 4 hours movie (yeah it deserved that, if you haven't, go watch it), this one is however, a little too much nostalgia in it - sometimes it got me thinking, am i watching a Japanese anime episode that was put together by clips from previous episodes?
Exactly that, this movie could be a solid 8 if you cut the crap out of it. No spoilers but if you watch it you know what I mean.
A true fan didn't need to be reminded, they will find out the Easter eggs themselves.
DO NOT SPOON FEED ME.
Dune (2021)
Too much setup in the beginning
Slept a bit and the bottom half was ok...
Spoilers below:
To sum up the story: genie in the bottle planned an all out strike on the kings new colony and the king fought back with bad mouth breath and almost killed the genie in the bottle; his son escaped and fell in love with Pocahontas, by killing the unwanted man in the tribe with the knife given to him by Pocahontas, he became a local sand dude.
Soul (2020)
God like, superb movie
I'm not gonna spoil it but you will see your life anew after watching it. Gives you hope.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
I don't get why people hate this movie
The story is tacky but not bad
Acting is great
Action is just right
And i actually cried watching it
I really don't get why people hate it
Fantasy Island (2020)
Who else think of lost?
I admit it's not scary or comedic or romantic but hey it's still a quite enjoyable movie.
Feels like Dora the explorer cross with lost. Not too much dull moments, and some good acting there too.
Watch it and enjoy it, don't trust the professional reviews.
Gemini Man (2019)
honestly? I enjoyed it. A lot of cliché so what?
I don't get those who rated it like super low - this is certainly an enjoyable movie, albeit a lot of cliché like the old days but the acting is top notch. Story is non-existent but hey it's an action fiction title, not your summer night melancholy with a twist.
Both protagonists are enjoyable with the main villain a bit too flat - your typical villain (even the face matches that) and the second clone was a joke - he's pretty good at loop kicks and parkour I give you that.
All in all it's quite enjoyable, I certain won't watch it twice but having watched it on amazon prime video I think it deserves a solid 7.
Dragon Quest: Your Story (2019)
Bad ending
The ending destroys it. It was unnecessary.
Character building was nonexistent.
Knives Out (2019)
Bittersweet, brilliant and hilarious
I never knew Daniel Craig actually can act!
The flow is a bit slow paced but the rhythm of the movie is top notch. Doesn't feel like 2 hours.
