Revealed: The Cape (2023)
Shocking and gritty but well worth a watch
A well-made and fascinating documentary covering the murder of a child and his father in Far North Queensland. The documentary provides an insight into the harsh conditions and tough life of the people who choose to live up here to exploit the rich waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria. It centres around two key families at the heart of the fishing community and their determination to protect their lucrative fishing businesses, no matter the cost. Their brutality and casual cruelty towards the sea creatures tells you everything you need to know about these people and the scene of the little shark trying to swim away from the chopping block after they'd cut his fins and back half off was gut-wrenching. Truly terrible people living terrible lives and raising the question, will anybody ever be brought to justice for the murders?
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
A Perfect Film
Well, I can't believe I'm saying this, but Top Gun Maverick is the second best film I've ever seen after The Godfather. It's faultless.
Everything, from the casting, the story, the humour and the emotion to the incredible in-air scenes is perfect. There were even creative solutions to the problems the team faced in their mission.
At one point I genuinely felt - for the first time in my life - like sitting on the edge of my seat, I was so invested. Tom Cruise looks great and his acting is top notch. All the cast were perfect, in fact.
Sad that it's gone from the cinema now - it will never be quite the same again.
God's Favorite Idiot (2022)
Charming, sweet and funny
I could watch this forever. Just easy-going and heartwarming. I love seeing Melissa and her husband together. The supporting cast are great and watching their awkward relationships develop is unexpectedly engaging.
Chernobyl (2019)
A Masterpiece
Quite simply the best thing I've ever seen on film.
